73-80 Hood Trim

On a visit to a junkyard I 'scored' for $2.50 the hood trim piece for the rear of the hood for 73-80 trucks. What is the rarity of this piece of trim? Joe Yezzi of SBS had a NOS one on eBay for a while back that was a few hundred dollars and in any condition don't seem to be for sale often (The value doesn't matter to me as I'm keeping it and using it). Was it a GM aftermarket piece or is there an RPO code/trim that received it? I pulled it off of a 78 Scottsdale short bed, was at one time a really nice truck- PS/PB/AC/Cruise/Clock and original paint too. Sadly it looked like barbarians and mother nature had attacked it, the dash was completely mangled and floor and bedsides were rusted away.

I also got this tailgate protector for another $2.50, attached with some 3M VHB I think it looks pretty decent and defiantly functional

I haven't ever even seen that, and don't recall it on any of my trucks. But there's tons I haven't seen, so what do I know lol.

I don't recall it on my '77, '79 or my '80 and all were Silverados. I did have a friend that had it on his '76 Scottsdale though.

I had a '79 chyenne k10 back in the early '90s. I can't recall if it had the hood trim or not. Seeing it on yours looks familiar, but I can't say for sure.

I believe it was part of a trim option group. Maybe part of the chrome grille option or maybe they came with a hood ornament. Just a guess. I've had a couple of those trim strips on my trucks, none have been in very good shape. I've seen some really rough ones too, I'm betting there's a boatload of trucks that had one but they weren't reinstalled after a repaint.

My loaded up 84 GMC had the hood trim.

The trim in question is only for the '73-'80 trucks, since the hood went right to the windshield (no exposed cowl like the '81-up trucks).

I had it on mine which is weird since my truck was a bare bones stripper model with no real options. It was the only piece of chrome trim on the truck. I have removed it because it was very brittle and easy to break.

Both my 1979 and 1980 dually Silverado's had the chrome rear hood trim, don't remember what was on the 1977.

My 79 K20 custom deluxe had it when I got it. I thought it was an aftermarket addition and I chucked it! Oops.

Goldie (1980 Suburban Sierra Classic) had one. No longer as it broke on one end when they took it off for paint.

I can't remember if the 77 had it or not .

Chromed plastic, I believe, which is why they break.
