Mine is also a factory 454 engine.
Not all that much of the horsepower, but it has enough torque to pull 4th gear (4 speed) at 25 mph with no issues.
This is info from a search I did when trying to figure out the same things...
Horsepower
The 1979 Chevrolet 454 cubic-inch V8 produced 245 horsepower at 4,000 rpm, better than the 225 horsepower at 4,000 rpm for the 1979 Dodge V8 440-3 and the 212 horsepower at 4,000 rpm of the 1980 Ford V8 460.
Torque
The 1979 Chevrolet 454 V8 generated 380 lb.-feet of torque at 2,500 rpm, which was also more than the 1979 Dodge 440-3, which generated 330 lb.-feet at 2,400 rpm, and the 1980 Ford 460, which generated 339 lb.-feet at 2,400 rpm.
Other Specifications
The 1979 Chevrolet 454 V8 had a four-barrel carburetor, a compression ratio of 7.6-to-1, and a bore and stroke of 4.25 by 4 inches.
Zombie thread revival.
As many know, I started bone stock.
Not even the lid was flipped until we got started with it.
First came a cobbled together 2-1/2" exhaust as the one on the truck was basically falling off.
Like the muffler dropped as the boy was driving his Ma around in it.
Flowmaster 2 chambers that dump at the axle currently still installed.
Photo shows them being installed the first time several years ago.
Sounds like a UPS truck, no roar or anything, just mellow engine noises even when on the gas...

Next a set of 1968-72 Nova headers had been fitted.
Major improvement on the fun factor with these installed.
They were and still are connected to the exhaust with some flex tubing.
Soon the whole exhaust will be replaced with 3 inch from the headers back including catalytic convertors.
Will be duals out the back exiting behind the rear tire with a H pipe connection with the same 2 chamber Flowmasters.

By far the biggest improvement was the addition of the Edelebrock Performer 2.0 intake and Holley 750cfm carb.
Around this time an MSD module we found in the junkyard was added to the HEI as well.

Quadrajet was replaced due to some sloppy throttle shaft tolerances with this swap meet found and teenage rebuilt unit.

Here we are all complete and full of fun ready to run.
The truck is a totally different truck from the day I bought it.
When I bought it, it would barely turn its tire over.
Now my son has made sure there was no tread what so ever on the old tires before we put new ones on.
It is a blast to drive when unloaded and has no issues at all carrying a full load of crushed gravel.

Simple bolt ons will take a simple engine and make it tons more fun.
