Hey guys, I just replaced my worn shocks in the front of my truck and im looking at the back and I see 7 Leaf Springs. Is this OEM for my 1989 GMC Suburban 454 7.4L ? Is this a tow package?

Im not sure what my options are. Im not looking to pull a home. I got the truck for daily driver / street / performance.

Should I pull a few leafs? Or just replace with all new setup?

Thanks!

Probably right for a 2500. I think my 1500 had five.

One thing to check is is to see if the R/R spring has fatigued. I had an '88 C20 Suburban with a 454 and the R/R was 1/2-3/4" longer in length due to fatigue. It caused my Suburban to crab walk. I had the springs rebuilt and it squared back up.

I took out a few leaves on my '73 K20. It just rode too hard empty. I put in Firestone air bags so I didn't lose any load capacity. I had 5200lbs of gravel in it once with the stock springs and it wasn't on the bumpers. A big improvement in ride quality and comfort with the bags
