As the title states, we all know that the stock 4x10 speakers just suck. I am looking to see if there are any enclosure adapters out there that would look okay but would also accommodate 6x9 speakers?

Only thing I've seen is homemade adapter panels.

Iirc those brackets are for deck mounted speakers or where rear access is available. Suburbans are surface mount and wouldnt need a bracket necessarily but they will not look right if just screwed in. Youd be looking more for a larger grille to cover the outside edges of the 4x10 or some custom grille.

Anyone ever figure anything out for this?
Maybe some one has found good 4x10s?

Magnadyne (G69D) makes a set. I used them on my last truck for my door speakers. Could be painted to match. You could use an MDF spacer to create support behind the side panel.

I wanted for keep my R10 as original looking as possible.
I used Pioneer and Metra adaptors.

3.5", TSA878 Pioneer front speakers
4 X 10, TSA4103 Pioneer rear speakers
Metra 72-4565 front speaker cable adaptors
Metra 72-4500 Rear spear cable adaptors

Sounds much better. Of course it's still only 4 speakers so don't expect too much.

or, you could up the sound quality immensely and install components, keepind stock 4x covers.
hint: if description says or shows 2 way or 3 way,, it aint component!

it might be mentioned already but I did a 3/4 in MDF rectangle piece as a spacer. Basically tucks in from the rear seat release pod up to the trim under the big rear windows. Then I got some 1.5 inch 6x9 speaker adapters off Amazon for $10 or something and screwed them to the spacer. I will take some pics when I have a chance. I had to go doubled up because the magnet on the 6x9 was still too big for the 4x10 hole in the side panel and I personally didn't want to start chopping up the metal. You could always go multiple layers of MDF if you chose as well. 6x9 speaker templates are all over the internet to download.

If you don't mind widening the 4x10 hole for the magnet to fit you can just go with one adapter made out of MDF then wrap in it vinyl to blend with the interior.
