Hey dudes, well my 65 build has been postponed now that I have picked up a members project that I think is a more desirable truck to build and is fancier what with all the custom trimmings on it. The 65 will be built later.

Zack (CVA59) did most of the hard work for me, he found and bought NOS door trim (the rest of the trim is intact), he found a near perfect aluminum grille for the truck, and he has already had the frame sandblasted and painted, plus all new steering components up front. He went with a 64 (?) frame with leafs instead of that uglass X style frame the truck came with. Steering box has also been totally rebuilt.

2 weeks ago I picked up a BBW cab from him, to convert my 65 glass. Saw the 61 and decided I had to have it on the way home. Went back and picked it up today. Along with a ton of other stuff, I think they just wanted to clear out the garage! LOL. a full set of 10" 6 lug wheels that could be blasted and powdercoated, 2 7" rallys, 3 steering columns including an automatic one (no floor shfter now baby!). All kinds of other stuff. Bedsides, etc.

Anyways the frame and all that is already done, so I plan on (once I get off the 6 weeks of 7-12's I start tomorrow) purchasing just a crate 290 hp GM engine, I have a 700r being completely rebuilt right now, and then just having the driveshaft fitted. Most of what I've bought for the 65 will go to the 61 now, well the things that will fit. Brand new rad support, fully rebuilt original radiator, poly cab and bed mounts, truck Hedman coated LT headers, 40 series flowmasters, etc. Once the drvetrain is complete I'll have my bodyman work his magic and the plan so far is either the teal and white OR a color called "kandy wine brandy" by house of kolor. WHo knows. Cant wait to getit started.

Heres some pics of when I got it today. Cab and bed are just bolted to the frame without shims or mounts, just to get it down the road. This is why no body lines match up.

Looks to be a good project but I wished the 65 would continue. I'm a bigger fan of the 64-66 Chevy/GMC trucks than I am of the Squares. I like the Squares cuz they are so damn cheap to buy, parts are plentiful and cheap, not to mention the later features like disc brakes, power steering, brakes, locks and windows, AC and Cruise Control. Hard to have all those features in the 64-66 models. I'd still have a 64-66, it just wouldn't be my daily driver like I can do with a square.

Well, there are kits out there to add all that...

I know, but they are expensive, and when I can buy a square for $100 and it already has all that, then its a no brainer.

Pulled one of the bed side steps just for giggles, wanted see what they were all about. Looks like someone did a real crappy job of installing them lol, the cuts were jagged as hell. Ive heard these were a dealer installed item. Also they dont haveany supports so I guess just te sheetmetal held them up in place. I kinda dig em soI was going to have them buffed, cleared and reinstalled...these had a gaskeet behind them in poor shape, I'll just make a new one.

the trucks were still and the people were lighter back then, so I guess that was adequate

You're right, I don't even think Twinkies, Doritoes and Coke existed back than. Actually, I think its, people really had to work to live back then. To many conveniences and fast food restraunts today. Along with bigger portions, like Super Size and Big Grabs of Chips. 20oz bottles of sodas instead of 12oz and 16oz. It all makes a difference. Marketing has certainly played a part in Americans becoming fat asses !!!

He was rockin like crazy on those 60's trucks. I think he said he was giviing or selling the one I liked better to his bro, then he was attacking the 61. I'd take either one honestly, but I do prefer the 64-66 better without the knee knocker and wrap around windshield, and not a fan of those Cat Eye shaped hood where the lights go. What I really want, is another 64-66 GMC. I do like the GMC better in those years. The dash is different and the GMC's usually have leaf spring rear ends where the Chevy's are coil spring rear end.
