I just sold an engine I had originally planned on putting in my 86 GMC to buy a more fuel efficient 5.3. I'm wanting buy a whole donor vehicle that way I can have all the wiring I'll need and can part it out and get some of my money back. (And maybe swap the seats into my square) the question is how hard will it be to do the swap and keep my sm465 in my pickup? I eventually want to put in a t56 but don't have the money right now. I need something I'll be able to drive from Nebraska to California or virgina.

Chevy kept the same bellhousing bolt pattern through out time should be simple as any swap.

Sent from the dust in front of you!

Ya but how many LS engines came factory as a manual ? You will need to find a flywheel for that LS engine.

Early GMT800s could be had with a 6.0L and a 5 speed in the 2500HDs. Should be able to find a flywheel and clutch disk to work with it.

I haven't really found much online about a manual transmission 5.3 swap.

I would add an over drive to the M465 it will give better results than the LS swap using a ranger torque splitter. There about $1,600 and will add an over drive to your existing transmission. It looks like a little bit of work to install one but your RPMs are a bigger problem than the motor efficiency.

At that price he is probably better off just going with an NV4500

But then he wouldn't have the coolness factor having twin sticks.

If my '65 didn't already have an overdrive in it, I'd be swapping in my Ranger Overdrive. I am still kicking it around just because of the coolness factor. An SM420 and a Ranger OD would be a cool setup.

I just saw this thread and in no way would I put a sm465 behind a 5.3. As stated if you truly wanted to stick with a standard got with the nv4500.
