OK heres what I am doing. I got a 350 vortec out of a 99 tahoo and its going in my 77 2wd c10. I am putting the 4l60e in and was wanting to know if the stock 307 rear end is going to act with the over drive. Do I need to go with something bigger'?

truck will probably almost be idling when going down the highway. My 3.08s and 700r4 are barely at 1350 rpm.

We both need a lower (higher number) gear. I want 3.73, only bad part is I need two sets for both axles. You need only one. I hear you will actually get better MPG with a 3.73 since the trans won't be in and out of high gear on the slightest incline.

also, welcome to the forum. I am from Mooresville, NC originally so I've been to the Knap a few times.

Beautifull cruiser for flatlands and ninety miles an hour.
Just keepit in third when driving around the slower roads then shifter into OD when You get into the flat lands a minimal traffic.
Wo`nt be real quick off the line either.

My 92 had 308 rear gears and a 700r4 when it was new. They worked very well together. 21mpg on the highway. I'll admit I thought it was a little under powered, but then again, it only had around 200hp. If you want to really feel it in the seat of your pants, 373 gears should do it along with a limited slip carrier. If you want fuel economy, keep the 308 gear. The 342 gear is kind of an all around gear and would also be a good choice.

Looks like a good straight body. I think you will like your choice of gears espically when you pass the gas stations.
