I wanna keep it simple, i checked Rock Auto's oil pan option for a 74 and compared it to the 80 option and it was the same. so knowing they're the same, i ordered the chrome oil pan from LMC. hope it works, but ready to send back if not. you never know these days. i called LMC and they couldn't tell me **** haha

I welded a lugnut to the pan of a 100,000 plus mile 4.3 and used the regular drain plug on a repair.
Now with 300,000 miles and still not a problem.

Also in my experience parts that are chromed and inexpensive are usually junk before their time.

I agree with Dooley, the chrome ones are junk. I have had to many of them from different makers over the years. Granted they are pretty. The rails are hardly ever flat. The chrome after a few years will start flaking off. You will have problems with the drain plug sealing, so plan on buying new gaskets for the plug every time you change oil. Dip Stick tube always leaks. The one @Craig 85 showed looks to be a nice pan, and the drain plug is in the bottom. Just my advise...it is your truck.

thinkin i may just drill it out to the next size and tap for a bigger plug

Cancelled the chrome pan order, went to Hovis and bought an Oil Drain Plug Rethread kit, comes with a special drill bit, a spring/rethreading tool and 5 magnetic plugs. It worked like a charm. Then again it flippin better, it cost me a small fortune. Finished the oil change, she runs like a champ :)

Good to hear you worked it out. Also, if you do change the oil pan to a new primed unit, strip off the paint on the inside of the pan, prior to assembly. Ask me how I know..

Good call on the repair.

I can confirm that the engine has to be lifted several inches to get the pan off of a 2wd 454.
