Hello fellow SQ Body's,
my 1987 chevy 1/2 ton rolls really rough when placed in 4 wheel hi and low. Any thoughts on what might cause this? Any suggestions would be geatly appreciated!

Got a better description of "rolls real rough"? Is it noisy? Is there vibration? Shimmy? Hard to steer?

thanks for the reply! When I put the truck in 4 wheel hi or lo it drives but feels like something is out of round. No noise, vibration or shimmy.

Yep, we provide all the space you need to give some details about the truck, mods, recent repairs or upgrades, and description of the issue. Assured, we'll get you to the bottom of it with some more detailed info.
We also need to understand what you're referring to. I'm wondering if what you're talking about might just be normal. As in, is it torque steer you're feeling in the front wheel? Could be any # of things, like possibly U Joints in the front shaft or maybe even in need of a ball seat kit in the Double CV Joint at the Transfer case end of the shaft. Might be a front axle bearing becoming more noticeable when the front shaft is engaged. Maybe an output shaft bearing in the Transfer Case. And could be some bushings or something as simple as tire pressure.

Thanks for a the replys! Tires and pressure all the same, stock not lifted. The truck goes into 4 hi and 4 lo. just fine. When in 4 wheel mode you can feel it engage. How should I trouble shoot this? Starting from easy to extreme! Thanks

Check the front driveshaft slip joint for excessive play, check all your u-joints in the front half of the drivetrain including the double cardan joints, pinion u-joint and the left & right axleshaft u-joints. Check the front pinion and see if it is loose. Check the transfer case to adapter bolts, and check the t-case rubber mounts. Lastly make sure you're not driving in 4x on dry pavement, it can damage things.

Are you running any kind of lockers or a welded rear. And also Check all of the joints For play.
