Soooooo....tossing the idea of a suspension overhaul and wanting to hear from some folks who've possibly done it or put some thought into it.

The ride quality I have now is good but I'm wanting it to be even better and bringing it up to date. So lately I've been tossing around doing a 4 link rear with coilovers and some coilovers up front. Overall, I'd like the stance to remain the same (or very similar) but the quality to be up to the next level.

Has anyone done this on a square? I'm sure the answer is yes but wanting to get the convo started and myself educated. I see some universal 4 link kits out there from various companies.

Let's hear some thoughts???

Biggest thing is what're you starting off with? 2wd vs 4wd. Pickup vs burb vs blazer?

2wd will be harder considering lowered stances and clearances without cutting into the bed itself.

1987 2wd Suburban currently dropped 5" all the way around.

Being that low, you probably have the option of running shock hoops inside the wheel well, but that may contact the wheels depending on shock diameter and how wide or the backspacing on your rims.

If you've got saddle bags, it may not have enough room to do a 4link style like the trophy trucks.

You probably have the option of doing dropped shock mounts off the axle that come into the wheel well or may mount inboard of the frame.

And probably have enough clearance to run a cantilever setup.

Dropped shock mounts/inboard & wheel well mounting:

Nice! This is somewhat the setup I had rolling around in my head being lowered and not wanting to cut into the floor of the burb. Seems like a setup like this could happen with no cutting :hmm:

Being its a heavy 3/4 ton burb, i think your best bet would be to bag it. Im not talking about a body drop or laying pinch, just a nice bolt on kit.

If I went an airbag route I'd still need upper and lower control arms and a panhard bar, right?

EDIT: disregard. Just looked at John's links :waytogo: I like that :) looks like I need to save my pennies

I know it's an old thread. Here is a pic of the truck I just bought. The bed hasn't been cut.

stay tuned! my truck should be going to a local well known truck suspension company next week to prototype a four link rear and maybe a chassis!
