Not a square body guy but thought this forum might give me some good answers. New 350HO installed. Instructions state "Start the engine and adjust the initial timing. Set spark timing at 32 degrees before top dead center (BTDC) at 4,000 RPM with the vacuum advance line to the distributor disconnected and plugged. The HEI vacuum advance canister should remain disconnected. This engine is designed to operate using only the internal centrifugal advance to achieve the correct timing curve". I'm confused. Sounds like the vacuum advance line to the distributor isn't used? Or the HEI vacuum arm is disconnected internally? If the vacuum line isn't used then why say disconnect and plug?

I'd hook it up to manifold vacuum, after setting total. Which is what they are describing with Rev to 4000 rpm set timing to 32. Do some research on ignition timing. Look for ignition timing 101or ignition basics 101,but that's how it would be if it was mine.
