I think a lot of avalanches had a strong axle that was a six bolt

We’ve been runnng 35s with a 14 bolt and 3.73 gears for a while

We broke two 10 bolts with normal street driving
The ten bolt might be ok in a four cylinder S-10 but it has no business in a full size V-8 pickup

I'll check Av's too.
So is your front axle a 10 bolt or did you change that?

When I had a 3/4 ton (k20) I never even thought about axles. I just lifted it, put bigger wheels and tires and drove it everywhere.

Front was a Dana 44
I just swapped the spindles rotors and hubs to 8 lug

Right I've read Napa has the conversion u-joint available.
Have a 4 inch lift so my driveshaft should be ok, I hope.

So you went with 3/4 ton axles with 8 lug?
Was the front a dana 60?

no it was the gm 10 bolt/dana 44 with 8 lug hubs,

Play around with this spreadsheet.

For what it's worth, the setup you have is essentially what I'd like to end up with for towing purposes (minus the 5.3...I'll stick with the big block). If you don't tow, I think 4.10 would be a comfortable ratio for your truck.

I have just over 7000 miles on my 77 now. The 5.3 is running great and pulls well. Since I don’t do a lot of highway driving the 4:56 gears have not been my issue. At the moment I pick up a vibe at 65 and gets worse as I approach 70. I believe the driveshaft is my problem. When the vibe starts I can see the trans and transfer case shifters start to wobble. I know my pinion angles are not the best (4 inch lift, short bed). Thinking a double Cardan joint drive shaft will correct this.

Just recalculated my u-joint working angles. Both are 11 degrees. Way too much. Definitely need a double Cardan joint.
