Can someone help me out with figuring out if my truck is a 3/4 ton or a 1 ton.

1983 gmc 3+3 long box with 14b ff rear end.

Is there and easy way to tell? Codes, vin?

C2500 means 3/4 ton, if it were 1 ton it would be C3500 and more than likely have dual rear wheels. Also the leaf spring perch spacing on the rear axle is a good indicator. If you have 42.5" from leaf spring center pin to center pin it is a 3/4 ton. 40.5" would be 1-ton.

3+3 crew cab i think the crews all used the same 1 ton frame so spring perches would be the 1 ton spring perches narrow.

2 wheel drive or 4x4?

look at the gvwr sticker in the door frame 4x4 1 ton is 10,000 pounds 2 wheel 1 ton is 9,000 pounds 3/4 ton would be less.

those gvwr are for a single cab square 1 ton not sure if a crew is different or not

Here is the VIN decoder from LMC catalog.
Sixth digit will tell you which series. 1500, 2500, 3500
Also C2500 with has a C6P option code (look on the glovebox door options list) that added bigger brakes and stuff.

Yep, his will be set up like a 1 ton even if it is a 3/4 ton. Pretty much it is a 1 ton even if it's a 3/4 ton. Spring pack might be different, and if 3/4 ton 4x4, still got the 10 bolt front axle instead of Dana 60.

If it's a crew cab or 3+3, it's a 1 ton frame. ALL CREW CAB squares are 1 ton frame regardless if it's 3/4 or 1 ton.

The axles are very similar in stoutness between 3/4 ton and SRW 1-ton but best way to tell is measure the leaf spring perches like I said earlier.

Yeah, I'd stll measure the perch distance, cuz I think the only difference and reason the 1 ton and 3/4 ton spring distance is different is due to the spring hangers. If you still have 3/4 ton spring hangers on the 1 ton frame, then the distance should be the same as any other 1/2 or 3/4 ton. If it's got 1 ton spring hangers then the distance will be more narrow. It would ge good to know too since you happen to have a 3/4 ton Crew Cab.. Lucky Fugger !!!

In fact, why don't you take us some pics of your rear axle and springs in that rig? Lets see the spring hangers, perches, shock mount brackets etc. That will be another thing that is different, is the shock hangers. Shock hangers are opposite of 3/4 and 1/2 ton on the 1 ton spring trucks. It would be interesting to know this info for certain. I almost hope it's actually all the same as 3/4 and 1/3 ton specs and measurement, but I have a feeling it's going to be just like a 1 ton.

When you say measure perch distance do you me the perch it self (thing that the spring sits on, on the axle right?) or from perch to perch? Sorry kinda confused there.

Ill agree with ya on being a lucky fugger :)!!

Looks like a 1 ton set up to me. I know the shocks are 1 ton set up. Spring perches look close to the frame, which will make the spring perch distance more narrow.

This is a 3/4 ton set up. Notice the difference in spring hanger distance to the frame, and notice the direction of the shocks.
