208 Milky fluid

I noticed milky fluid on the outside of my np208, on the bottom and by the output shaft seal. This truck is new to me. When i bought it i saw the same fluid leak but it was clean, not milky.

Today i popped the top cap and checked fluid with an allen wrench and the fluid inside is clean. My thought was if i saw milky fluid on the outside, then the inside would be emulsified and not just water on the bottom but i am unsure. I dont have enough fluid on hand to drain and refill. The truck is gonna sit until spring. Not registered. I am new to 4x4s.

Is it possible for fluid on the outside to get milky from condensate ?? Seems strange to me. I dont wanna drain and refill, or leave empty, I am going to pull the tcase anyway this spring but dont want it to freeze either. What are your thoughts?

If you suspect water in the case you can unthread the drain plug and hold it tight when it get the to the last thread and slowly tilt the plug away just enough to let fluid flow. You’ll know quick if water immediately comes out or red transmission fluid.

Got any pictures of the case with the fluid in question?

If you suspect water in the case you can unthread the drain plug and hold it tight when it get the to the last thread and slowly tilt the plug away just enough to let fluid flow. You’ll know quick if water immediately comes out or red transmission fluid.

Got any pictures of the case with the fluid in question?
I didnt take pics but if the fluid is milky wouldnt that mean that its emulsified. Or
Would the water separate and rest at the bottom after a while ??

Rather common, especially with front diffs that haven't been used enough. Condensation and no heat to burn water off. Water will usually emulsify.

Check the vent, drain and refill.

Thanks guys. I did pop the bottom for a second and ran clean. Pretty confident its clean inside now.

Check the vent on the top, it’s a bent metal tube with a short piece of hose and vent cap.
