I had no idea Shaggy had a forum for the GMT 400 trucks, lol. Anyway, a quick search shows it's very easy to add an AUX input to the factory setup.

Wow just a quick wizz down that page and i got scared!!! Its like a mirror of gmsb but with SO MANY ANNOYING ADDS! if it wasnt for the header to reassure me i almost quit gmsb! Lesson here?? Dont do adds gmsb!!!

I recently acquired a parts truck for the '90 SS. A friend bought a cheap '94 Suburban because he wanted the the engine/trans and the grille. I think he wants the seats too. I'm pulling the stuff for him and I get use of the rest.

Things that will get pilfered for use on the SS:
Right fender
Hood
Right door
Front door panels
Rear door arm rests (for front)
Rear door map pockets and speaker housings
LF door glass
Wiper motor
Cruise module
Front carpet
Steering wheel
Steering column
...plus a few other items I'm sure.

Yep, the goal is too mess with the weird textured paint less and eliminate some of the bad bodywork. If I get a nice black bed, I'll be in good shape, lol. I have to keep the driver door because it has the original stickers on it specific to the SS.

Markers are spoken for, not sure about the wheels. The rears are wider than the fronts and all four need lots of elbow grease. It's a working pioneer unit from the late 90's I believe.

It turns out that the rear door armrests are slightly different than the front. The leading edge bumps out a little bit and the rear hangs past the door panel maybe 1/4". But it does mount up and sure beats having nothing there at all. If I decide to stick with the original door panel, I'll have to glue the fabric back on.

Thanks to the parts truck my radio is mounted solid, the radio has reception, the glove box hinge is no longer broken, the glove box door straps are no longer missing and the glove box light now works.

And the part I'm happy about the most, the HVAC stuff all works now. The blend door motor was bad, the parts truck had a good one. My linkage for the mode doors was half missing, it was all good on the parts truck. Now it's all in place and it works 100%. I'm really excited to charge the AC and see what happens.

Is the Pioneer radio in the parts burb better than the JVC you have in the pickup? I liked the Pioneers I had back in the 90's.

Personally I don't think so. I've always liked the Pioneers for their sound, and ease of use, but that JVC sounds good and has a lot more features than that particular Pioneer. I do believe the JVC is supposed to have a remote and that would be nice to have. I'm not certain I want to install the factory radio now.

A remote would be a great feature so you don't have to lean way over all the time to reach the radio.

I keep forgetting that my K5 has a JVC in it too and it has a remote. I doubt it would work, but it's worth a try.

This AC ordeal is getting frustrating, all because someone in the past poorly installed a r134 adapter on the high side port and screwed it up royally. I repaired the port but needed a specific type of adapter since the manifold line will no longer accept a schrader valve, which turned out to be frustrating because nobody at the parts stores these days has any clue about AC parts. Ended up researching and digging up part #'s myself so I could just go to the store and spoon feed info to the counter person. So then I bought the correct port adapter tonight... and the stressed factory port broke right off of the manifold line. Well, so much for that. Going to try some hackery in the morning out of spite and see if I can win this war.

So in a last ditch effort to charge the AC and determine if the system was all ok, I shaved down the broken high side port and tapped it for an 1/8" pipe plug. It turned out, my new tap was made wrong. One of the flutes was double cut, causing 1/4 of the cutting teeth to break off because they were super thin. But it still got the job done.

So then with that 'repaired' I hooked up the vacuum pump and went to open the valve on the gauge set and the knob broke off.

I swear everything I touch just ends up broken, lol.

But in the end I finally own something with working AC again! The belt tensioner pulley clearly isn't happy about it, but it all works. It blows 58* at idle which is pretty good for a sunny 90* day with high humidity. Especially considering I did absolutely zero maintenance to the system, it is even still running the original accumulator.

And yes, my gauge set has a pipe plug where the high side line is supposed to go. I had to steal the fitting for use in my vacuum pump since it had a port for an R12 gauge set. Again, the parts store people around here aren't bright so I improvised instead of ordering a line adapter.
