It fired right up on the first try and runs awesome. After some leak checks, an idle reset and a timing adjustment (running 10 btdc), we took it for a very quick spin down to the end of my road and back. I think the increase in compression ratio gave it some *****. The trans seems to work too.

And here it sits currently, awaiting a new brake line, lol. The brakes were squishy before, but now they barely work. So that's the next task, then plates and insurance.

Oh, I almost forgot. The truck has 106k on it and I assumed it was the original engine. But when we pulled it out, it turned out to be a remanufactured shortblock purchased through GM, with the original heads. I believe the tag on the block states it was remaned in mid '96. Bored .030 over, .010 under on the rods and mains. The block is a '77 date code I believe. I'll tear into it soon to see what exactly went wrong.

Road ready, other than getting the rear brakes adjusted. The pedal has a lot of travel, despite getting the system fully bled.

And I tore down the 454 that came out of the truck. Talk about bearing carnage... I don't know how the damn thing even ran, lol.

Yep, and a couple rods. The crank is beyond toast considering it's already .010 under. And there were lifters coming apart, which I think is what caused it all. Pretty sure somebody overreved it a bunch doing burnouts, causing a bunch of valve float. Lifter plunger retainers ended up in the sump and the bearings ate some. Then someone drove it with the rods knocking. It's ugly.

And tons of bearing material in the pan. And remains of lifter plunger retainers.

Since the engine that went into this truck was supposed to go into my K5, this junk engine will be the candidate to build for the K5. It's already .030 over, so possibly go .060 over and will use a stroke crank. The bores all look ok, but do have some minor wear.

Oh, and my buddy (the one that bought this truck along with the red '94) that kills time with podcasts just put up a short video that involves my horrendous garage and this truck. I think it's quite entertaining. He's getting very creative.
