1989 454 Engine

I'm gonna go check out this truck tomorrow afternoon. I'm looking for a BB-454 for my 86. The guy will sell it to me for $500, with all the accessories. He says it runs good and strong, has 160,000 miles on it. I want to rebuild it and do some upgrades. I was wondering if these 454s from that year(1989) are good builders.
