I bought thus HAYDEN fan switching deal the other day from O'Reilly's with the help of the manager (remember the guy that tried to sell me that white, square, hotrod truck?)

Anyway, this fan switch is exactly what I think I want and last night I found this article studying the third gen website. Yep! Exactly what I want.

...i'm readin that article..."hey wait a minute...HAYDEN? (the fan clutch people) that's the name of that deal I bought at O'Reilly's right? It dawns on me.
Omg! I got the right thing on accident!"

Sweet.

Ever heard of an hour and a half oil change? LoL
Bonding!

Bang your head against the stage and METAL takes it's place! :headbang:

If this ain't 3rd gen Camaro music, nothing is.

I lubed her again..it's good now. Total inspection of the front undercarriage is complete. There isn't a hint of previous damage or even real scrapage/denting/anything under there. I really picked a good one!
Tightened the oil cooler clamps a bit, trans lines look sharp, power steering cooler is clean, bushings are cool, no signs of leakage , it's only dirty. Wonderbar intact and accounted for. Nice and straight...the end links have been replaced..Some of it still is dirty.. for a little bit longer haha.
I found a loose power steering to oil pan TORX 40 bolt and something else strange...my oil pan has been painted white. Only ONE WAY that can happen...
I drained the oil completely, and flushed some Valvoline through. I had about 3/8 quart dex3 and I primed my oil filter with it.

Looks good.
Front suspension is good. Brakes good. Tires good. The lower radiator hose even has worm gear clamps on it. :) A good sign! It seemed ok when I was squeezin on it. I could hear it moving coolant.

I found a disconnected oil sensor plug thingy ON THE HOUSING. Gauge has been working? Plugged it back in.

I think my knock sensor between cylinders 2 and 4 is broken. Looks sketchy. Betcha that is at least one reason why the car is so painfully slow cuz it WAS. That and the ANCIENT O2 sensor(s) have GOT TO GO. ;) I'll get another and some more...I say it "switches painfully slow" and i'm referencing the fuel trim. Prolly why it's so hard to start too.
I cleaned a little more and lemme tell yous somethin!

If your oil looks like THIS when you change it, you're waiting too long.
Remember, I changed the oil filter FIRST THING?!
We'll get her cleaned up, no worries!
Two oil filters in 11 days? 12? Yeah...
Dirty oil don't help it go fast either. Certainly does nothing for MPG.OR cool running temps.

I'm all over it.

I've got a new fuel filter here with some 80-90 on standby. Moving forward, we press on.

Just wondering. If you don't put many miles on you car. How often do you change your oil?

When I bought my camaro 2 years ago the po just changed the oil. I'v put a little more than 3000 miles on it since and just changed the oil for the second time last month. Too often or not enough? The oil looked good but, do you think it's velocity breaks down over time?

Yes. Without question.
Motor oil is a SOLUTION and like anything else, it has a "half-life".
It's various ingredients separate in time and the different components BREAK DOWN. Extended shelf life can ruin motor oil. When I used to work at O'Reilly's, we had to stock the new shipments to the back, like in a grocery store or anything else like that.
Motor Oil detergent has the shortest life of it's mixture and it loses it's effectivness FIRST.
I know more than the average bear about motor oil, I spent some YEARS of my life working in various oil change places as a kid. The first wrench I ever turned for money was at Jiffy Lube when I was 16...good question, yessir.

How often do I change my oil? About when I change u-joints. Haha pretty much when I wonder if I should or not...is that fair? I think so. Obviously I check it everytime I open the hood - especially with a new car like this. I used to change my Monte Carlo's oil when I saw it beginning to darken.
BUT!
I used to drive it every day and it only sees "severe service" lol.
Then again, I built that 362 in 2003 I think so maybe there is something to that... :p

But seriously folks, that's why they say THREE MONTHS OR THREE THOUSAND MILES ...everybody has heard that.

Omfg. Something is amiss back there. I don't believe that fuel system should hold THAT MUCH GAS. Gah! That fuel filter was damn near a night ending experience...but we shall press on! It's early as f*ck says THIS Overnight.

xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

Pulled a WIX filter off, no mileage or date...everything we do tonight is to establish a baseline. Twas clogged says the blow through test. Yuck!
Lookit the DIRTY gas that came out.
Super Unleaded is translucent PURPLE. Wtfe that issue is, this crap ain't helpin it start easy neither.
Most often I gotta turn the key THREE TIMES to get it popped off.
Not.cool.

Why is my shoulder wet? DUDE! STOP. WITH THE GAS!
...WTF? Gah Helen was throwin a fit!
It's okay baby. Daddy's here and now we're going to break for dinner -tonight.

Snapped this odometer pic the other day...
:D

Hey lookit! I found a MAGNAFLOW!
The IROC sounds cool but it's NOT loud. 100% acceptable to me. Looks fine. I like that the pipes are not noticeable nor flashy. I have zero plans to f*ck with the exhaust until I ACTUALLY put headers in this 3rd gen after the injury claim hits home. ;)
- $1,000 ? Prolly go back to Camaro/Firebird and have to PULL THE ENGINE.

I am that guy...there WILL BE coated headers SOMEDAY.
Bank on that ****! ANT BANKZ on it.

xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

Ima use this gas in my oil change pan to clean the differential after dinner.

We fiddin to get DURRRTTTYYYY!
(It's freaking nasty AF! back there)
I gotta change shirts.. :(

Interesting. That temp gauge is from an '82-'84 car.

Ofc there's no tag like we would expect...do you know how to identify the gear ratio?

I don't think there is any way it's a 2.77...guess i'll jack it up some more.
Maybe it is and it makes better power than I think lol.

In aside, the back end, bumper, cover, all that jazz is just as straight and perfect looking as the front end parts are. I've really got a sweet ride here...it just needs some love and attention.

The 9-bolt was used under the disc brake cars from '87-'89. And some drum brake Trans Ams starting in '85. There should be an ID tag held on by one of the cover bolts, but obviously someone has monkeyed around there. It could be a 2.77 though.

I have no clue that that is. I cleaned the front of the passenger axle tube and there is nothing discernable.

If you told me it is a 3.27 i would believe you.
I think 3.45 is not really possible.
I do not believe the car acts strong enough to be 2.77 geared. I want to believe it is a factory G92 car, (3.27) i'm trying to prove it.
G92= PERFORMANCE AXLE RATIO
The 3.45 was G92 under smaller engined (5.0) man trans cars I believe..Think i'll wait to get enough DIFF juice to pull the cover. I am NOT prepared for that ATM. It's full and disgustingly dirty. Needs cleaned.

There are other parts waiting patiently though...

We've spent the rear end time today. Daddy seems tired. :( Good show.

Maybe i'll take some sleeping pills and shower before bed.

That sounds nice. Ima start cleaning up..and put THIS THING on. Bonus of being buddies with the neighborhood Camaro yard!

Often 9 bolt did have a bit more desirable gears, last one I had was in a 3.20 range. Also on the hayden fan controller, i used one many years ago and then it would act up turning fans on or off randomly. Ecm controlled fans or temp switch with relay setup been preffered method for me

Iirc 2.77, 3.25 and 3.45 were the ratios used in the 9-bolt axles.

My old '88 350 car came with 2.77.

Speaking of ECM controlled...i'm hip to that and have been studying into aftermarket chips solely to find one with a better fan temp. Surely Gary Camaro has one or one hundred layin around somewhere? Got into input regarding?
