Greetings to all fellow Square Body owners and drivers!!! I am trying to find out some information about the 208C transfer case in my 1987 Suburban. I This Suburban has the typical 5.7 V8 and 700R4 in it. The transfer case I have has an assy #1400 and beside it are the numbers 3249 on the metal tag. It's the usual 261 ratio, 27 spline and the serial # is 10-13-86. What is the difference between the assy #1400 and a #1402? The casting number is C-15085. I can't seem to find any info other than "Call us with your transfer case tag assy # info so we can match it up". ANYBODY know it they are different? The same? THANKS!!

Your Assy number is too short. Should be 8 digits long.

What are you trying to determine?
Do you need a replacement or rebuild kit?
Not much difference in the NP208c for square body. Either 27 spline as you mention or 32.

If you want an upgrade that came stock, look for a NP241C. They made them with mechanical and electronic speedo.

The assy # is 1400 then followed by 3249. Here is a picture of the transfer case tag.

That should be easy, just find an 81-88 208c 27 spline from a squarebody (k10, k5, k15...). This will have the proper right side driveshaft drop. NP made them with left hand drop in other trucks.
IIRC the NP241c started in 89

Hey THANKS RoryH19! Only problem IS here in North West Florida, they (Chevy 208C Transfer Case) are few and far between. EVERY one I have found is over a 4 or 6 hour drive from here. Nothing is close. I have found PLENTY of 241C's but NO 208C's. They are all over Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana. And as far as 1999 and up Chevy transfer cases available, they are plentiful. Oh well, I guess I will keep looking. Many thanks for the reply!!

Does anyone know who sells the BEST Chevy 208C transfer case rebuild kit? I see that this unit has Torrington bearings in it and someone double sealed the input drive gear putting TWO seals back to back, not a bad idea it seems..........

Thread is old, but need to update my post relative to the OP's post so future readers do not get confused.

The assembly number on all NP/NV transfer cases with the round tag is split by the center screw. The complete assembly number is BOTH parts, both left and right concantated together, in his case the assembly number is 14003249.
