I have a 1986 crew cab short bed with the following modifications. It’s a 350 I put summit vortex heads on it with scorpion 1.5 roller rockers, retrofitted comp cams roller lifters, a crane roller cam .488 intake & .509 exhaust, edelbrock 2116 intake, edelbrock 1406 carb, a huggers GM5Xtm torque converter on a th400, with a 4:10 rear end. MSD coil, MSD box, MSD wires. My truck starts up and runs fine but if I punch it from a dead stop it won’t spin the tire, posi is my next add on. Once it’s rolling around 40mph it will run strong when I floor it. But it’s a dog below that. Any suggestions?

Accelerator pump on the carb? When you punch the peddle it should squirt some fuel down the primaries to remove any 'lag' in the system. Timing could also be off.

sounds like you need to dial in your timing and carb. I would bet your A/F ratio is off and your timing curve is probably not right. That motor sounds like it should have plenty of power to spin a one-legger.

More than likely the wrong cam for bottom end torque. Go to comp cams and you can punch in all the parameters and get best torque possible cam recomendation. Cams are the Red Light District of engine parts.

What duration is listed with that cam? If you have the cam card list the specs.

As already mentioned that cam sounds too big.

That being said. What is your timing set at?

Without knowing the duration that cam probably needs initial timing at 12-14* and 32-38* total.

That cam more than likely won’t start making power below 3,000 rpm

Also what is your stall speed on the conv and what size tires?
