Have replaced both door gaskets with Classic Auto OEM's, prior to door closed fine with wind leakage, now will not close properly. New gaskets look and fit great!

Questions:
1. Is there a tolorence spec. for the door hinges (play), basically how much play at the latch is nominal/acceptable?
2. Truck was put into storage for 6 months with doors partial (as best possible) closed and new OEM gaskets still causing free door closing issues.
3. is there a good video or instruction for adjusting doors to Cab post? See a few but nothing worth using? Start messing with the hinge adjustments?
4. Rip out the new gaskest and replace with soft seal?

Any help or resource please.:emotions122:

I assume you mean you now have to slam the door to get it to close all the way? That's normal for new gaskets. It's the price you pay for a good seal.

If you feel it's TOO hard to close, you can adjust the striker outward a touch. It's easy, you just loosen it up a tad (there should be a witness mark of where it's lived all this time) and move it outward a tad. There's no real science to it, just play with it until the door latches nicely and the bodylines are lined up.

That said, if your hinges are worn out, that does complicate things a bit getting the door to shut nicely without replacing them.

Door Hinges 101

The body side of the hinges allow adjustments to be made: up, down and front to back.

The door side if the hinge allows adjustments to be made: up, down, inboard and outboard.

Each adjustment should be made to one hinge side at a time, tighten the bolts and then move to the next adjustment.

Problem and Solution

P: The gap between the top rear of the door and the quarter panel is too close; you need to widen the gap.

S: Make the adjustment at the top body side hinge; nudge it forward until you achieve the appropriate gap.

P: The bottom rear of the door is sticking out and is not flush with the body.

S: Make the adjustment at the top door side hinge; pull the top front of the door outward and you will see the lower rear of the door drift inward.

Top rear in or out = lower door side hinge

Bottom rear in or out = upper door side hinge

Setting gap and angle = body side hinges, up down, forward or back

I hope you do not mind my comment..... but also pay attention to the striker bolts where the latch mechanism clamps onto the body near the door handle. There should be a cylindrically shaped piece of plastic around the area where the door latch clamps onto it. If yours is missing, a piece of PEX tubing (1/2 " I think) can be cut to replace the original piece of plastic if it is missing.
