I recently bought a 1982 1 ton GMC Sierra 3500 flatbed for my machine tool business. 5 digit odometer shows 27K and a thick folder of maintenance records shows it to have 127K miles.
The intention was to gather the parts needed to upgrade it with a 700R4 and TBI. Then I saw a Craigslist ad for a 1991 TBI 350 with 700R4, running in a Chevy 2500, you pull. Score!
$1,060 for the truck + $175 for the 1991 drivetrain, wiring etc. Also have spent $260 on new 2.75" thick laminated tongue and groove boards for the flatbed deck.
Yesterday I went to pull the 91 parts and on the return trip, 52 miles from home, the 3 speed auto went *phut*. So the schedule for the drivetrain upgrade has been moved up.
