I have a 1976 GMC c15 and the right hand side cup is just loose, floating around. Tailgate sits too low on this side as a result. The cup has the opening in it to make removing the tailgate easy.
My question is…how is this cup mounted to the truck? Is it welded, bolted, etc. also what is the orientation of the slot in the cup?
Any help you can give I would appreciate.
Thanks!

Taillight cups are screwed in. Access behind the lens (4 screws) then the cup with the lightbulbs attached.

Welcome to the site.

Generally, LMC and the like will have exploded diagrams of the assemblies so you can see how they are put together.

While you’re doing this job.. you should switch to upgraded hinge and Trunnion sets.
I’ve used these on a couple of my trucks, Worth every penny !!
