Hi, I want to go with 17" wheels on stock 87 GMC Sierra , but not sure what size tire to go with. Truck is stock height , so what do you think would look good for street look as far as being big enough to fill wheel well but not look oversized, pictures would be great. Thanks

What tire size are you currently running?

For example a 255-70x15 tire is 29" tall. For the same tire height with a 17" wheel, you'd run 255-60x17 tires.

Also, 235-60x17 is within 0.2" overall height of 235-70x15.

The math is easy to do:
255 x .60 = 153 mm section height
153 / 25.4 = 6.024" section height
6.024 x 2 = 12.048" top+bottom section height
12.048" + 17" = 29.048" overall height

I am running 265/75-16 on my stock '79 K20. I could easily move up to a 285 if I wanted. I would say go with 265/70-17 on your truck, as it is a half ton. That is an extremely common size today so new tires are relatively reasonably priced, and readily available anywhere.
