15x8 rally tire sizes

Have a 1987 R10, getting rid of the big ole 22" wheels, doing a 5/7 drop and c-notch on it. Just picked up a set of stock 15x8 rally wheels and was looking for tire size options. Definitely want to run a shorter sidewall than factory, but obviously not a super low profile look either, something in the middle probably. I was looking at probably doing 235/60/15 cooper cobras. anyone with pictures of this setup or tire size with pictures that would be able to help. Greatly appreciated!!!

It warms my heart that you’re getting rid of the 22s.. They don’t belong on a Square Body .IMHO
A short sidewall like a 235/60 sometimes looks disproportionate on a 15X8 Rally because it doesn’t FILL the Wheel arch/Wheel well.
A lot of Guys here run the 255/70 R15… the sidewall is shorter than factory, they fit real nice, fill the space and don’t make your truck look like a Rollerskate.

Here's my truck at roughly 4.5/6 with 235/75/15s. I had originally planned to run rallies for a long time and was going to do a 245/60/15 up front and a 275/60/15 out back because I like the staggered look. But I ended up with 20s after all

Here's a 275/60/15 on the rear, it was an old dry-rotted one I just threw on to get an idea

For a lowered truck, I personally like the 255/60 and 275/60 combo. Just enough front/rear size difference for the muscular look, and the front tires don't look too narrow for the 8" wide rims.

For a stock height truck, or close to it, 255/70 all day long imho.

This is my fear! But I also am lowering the truck even more than it already is, so I don't know how much of the rollerskate look will apply. The more I think about it, the more I tell myself I would probably go with a 245/60 or 255/60. Wish it was possible to test fit this without having to commit to them first. hahaha

The dry rotted Eagle G/T's are a killer size. I'm more of a square stance kind of guy. Except for width, obviously I want them to be as wide as possible. And down the road I plan on doing like 18"s or 19"s. Ultimate goal for the truck is autocross setup.

That's the kicker!! Love the overall height dimensions of a 235/60, especially with doing a 5/7 drop, but I don't want it to be too narrow of a tire on the 8" wheel.

Think this setup would still fit/function fine with a 5/7 drop on it? Down the road I would dream of like an 11" wide wheel up front, so I'm not above removing fender wells. lol

Same, I'm working toward the autoX thing now but it'll stay on 20s (or maybe 19s) since it's still primarily a street truck. 18s are too small on these unless you're full chassis low. I don't have full chassis money lol

FYI, that 275/50/15 square setup won't fit with stock inner fenders. I have 255/40/20s up front and rubbed like a **** before I put in my SloshTubz. I'm talking, tires STOPPED on big bumps on the highway when they got shoved into the inners lol

I see all these guys around Nashville sitting on full Detroit Speed and Apex Predator chassis and I just dream about it. ****, I wish I could just afford full QA1 front and rear setups. I see myself fitting in the poser role, all show and no go!! hahaha

19"s is the sweet spot, but not very many wheels that I like come in 19". Looked into swapping out the hubs to a more universal bolt pattern, but that was a dead end.

I think for now a 245/60 or 255/60 square setup is going to be my happy place. Do you think the 255/60 would rub hard on stock inners?

Yeah man, I travel around to shows all the time working for AMD and I know several of those guys. The Level 7 Motorsports crew are good friends of mine, I've talked to JB that has the green '67-72 on an Apex chassis several times and also know the TCI guys. It's REAL hard for me to not be able to participate lol. I grew up road racing and autocrossing with my dad.

The 255/60 would probably be ok for the most part, that's an inch shorter than my setup. Might rub occasionally but not bad. Keep in mind your rear gear/trans too though, a 27" tire is awful short. I run ~2500 at 80 with my 4L65 and 3.90 gear.

Depends on how you drive it most. If it’s a weekend toy, shorter trips and around town, that’s not the end of the world. I debated putting 4.10s in mine, other friends run 3.73s so I split the difference. A 27” tall tire wouldn’t be the end of the world, but it’s definitely gonna rev higher
