    Garage upgrade

My garage doors have openers but my shop door is a huge barn door and a real joy to open and close.

What have you done to your square lately??

Last night I finished chopping up a rollbar meant for a long bed to fit into my short bed. Just gotta finish welding and cleaning now. Last week I finally put in the new cluster relay board and switched all the bulbs to LED. Everything works on my dash now!

    Exhaust Question

Yes! The FlowMaster 40 is no longer patented and lots of other companies are making clones. I have 2 on my '82 longbed and they sound AMAZING!

    Can this be removed?

To expand on what others have said no engine air/gas/vacuum goes through that. It leads to a housing on the exhaust which captures heat much like the heater on older VW Beetles. I kept mine on and hooked up simply because all the parts were there (though I doubt the vacuum assembly works anymore).

Coolant Hose Popped Off the Thermostat

Because of the low cost I would go ahead and replace the hose, thermostat, coolant and radiator cap. As for coolant in the carb may be a good idea to run a heat gun or fan down into your intake for a bit to hopefully evaporate any of it out. But if you've been running it since then with no...

    Shop heater

I built a double 55-gallon drum wood stove for mine, but honestly I mostly run my huge Val 6 that burns diesel which I fill with agricultural diesel. My shop is big and drafty enough that I don't worry much about fumes, and that thing will get to cooking after about 20 minutes even in below 0...

Instrument cluster questions on new build

This may not be of great use to you, but I had the same issue a few years back finding the correct temp sensor for my '82 with a 305 motor. I eventually tried the following at it worked, so when shopping for your 350 and you see this pick the OTHER option lol. I can't help you with the oil...

Do I even need a gas tank vent tube?

Well I feel dumb. The vent hose had in fact kinked behind the fill tube. Instead of paying $25 for the correct hose I just added a brass 90-degree PEX fitting and voila! Took 5 gallons without a drop lost.

Do I even need a gas tank vent tube?

Thank you. The hose still has a downward angle but likely not enough like you said. I will do some research on the blazer tank, have not heard of that. I only have 1 tank now.

Do I even need a gas tank vent tube?

On my '78 K10 when I replaced a leaking gas tank I moved the mounts up so that the tank didn't hang so low below the body. In doing so I believe I caused a fueling issue because now it takes forever to fill without the fill tube locking up and spitting gas out. I've been researching remedies...

Good luck, let me know if you need help, just finished chasing this issue on my own truck and took me a while to get it right.

    Power Steering Squeel

Aside from the belt/pully conversation have you checked for air in your system? Run it, shut it off and pop the reservoir cap to see if bubbles are popping to the top.

    Exhaust Question

Late to the conversation, but if you can weld dual exhaust is very easy to run and Flowmaster's patent on their 40 series mufflers ran out years ago so there are tons of cheap options on the market now.

    '78 K10 radiator overflow plumbing

Thank you. Hot it installed over the weekend, there is an overflow opening on the tank that is left open but I wasn't accounting for the hose staying below the fluid level to maintain vacuum.

    '78 K10 radiator overflow plumbing

PO did not have an overflow tank and the hose attached to the radiator just below the fill shoots coolant out when hot. I looked up the appropriate tank for my truck but it appears to have 2 inlet/outlets. Does my truck recover coolant via vacuum through a single hose, or am I looking to tap a...

    Alternatives to anti-sway bar?

My '78 K10 is very lifted, and I recently added crossover steering which required removal of the sway bar. I am on the verge of having it on the road now but am worried about stability. Does anyone know of anything that can be done to get some of that stability back? I've installed new shocks...

New steering pump and still leaks power steering fluid. Do I need a different pump or Lucas stop leak?

I would consider a new rubber seal ring inside the cap. Do you have air in the system? I have a '65 Thunderbird that will was shooting fluid out of the cap until I remedied it, it churns like crazy in there with air bubbles.

Finally got extended/suitable emergency brake cables onto my rear wheels.

Forgot to mention but I did have to shorten the main cable. I used one of these meant for VW throttles. The barrel is the same size as our cables use, you just need to cut off the rod part and drill the hole out a bit to acommodate a bigger cable...

    Parking Brake Mechanism Question

I thought the same. It's all held together by some weird connector that is cross-slotted on both sides like a phillips head but I venture is actually stamped like the hood hinges. I'd say if it functions leave well enough alone!

Finally got extended/suitable emergency brake cables onto my rear wheels.

Finished up my e-brakes last night. Used the originally intended cable from the pedal assembly but had to do some fabbing after that. Since the cables I used from the rear brakes were threaded shafts and not cable ends I chopped the slip connectors and welded in a simple steel bar with a 90...
