    Old wheel bearing grease cans.

Hey group, I have a couple of old wheel bearing grease cans. These were my dad's and are between 50 and 60 years old. I remember him using them on the trailer wheels. In my clearing out of "stuff" I ran across them. The grease has been mostly cleaned out. I have not completely cleaned up the...

    Candy store skore

On my list of to-do's was an oil pan. And when I pull the motor to replace lower seals and gaskets, (at some point) why would one not put on a new pan? So it was on the list....well "was" noted. After checking the flange flattness and double checking fitment with a tech-guy, a new oil pan...

Another score from the candy store.

The reason for the upgrade was not to do peel-outs. We plan on finding a decent 20' to 24' trailer camper and this is the puller. I do not have a heavy foot. Since I did not use any tool to tap the shims in I figured that by the time everything settles in, there will be an additional .003 in...

Another score from the candy store.

I just remembered a question I had... Can the factory stock open diff have pieces added to it, in order to convert it to a limited slip diff? In other words: pop out the original open diff, swap / add parts to it and convert it to a limited slip /posi diff? ..and I don't mean welding gears...

Another score from the candy store.

Update: I was gonna wait until spring to tackle the diff, but a warm streak was predicted for Fri, Sat and Sunday and I had the itch to get it done. After hitting the manuals and having watched a few swaps on the TV gearhead channels, I pulled the trigger. Got everything dismantled in a few...

Another score from the candy store.

Decided to hit the candy store (Summit) because it's been about a week. Haven't gone my normal frequency cause the demo shelves have been a tad sparse. Strolled down first isle but what before my wandering eyes appeared a posi diff. All this summer box after box of open diffs. Rarely a posi and...

    Whatcha do with that...?

I thought about that and it is what promped me to ask. Because one side thinks, "you bought the part you replaced and if that goes bad would you bolt the old part back on, or get a new replacement?" I'd get a new replacement, of course. Now the other side thinks, "Yea, but what if a potential...

    First time "real" painting.

Update: Original hood was unbolted and tossed aside, yep tossed. (That was fun..lol) The new-ish hood was bolted in and easily aligned. In spite of its few tiny flaws, it looks so awesome. Brought back memories of 20+ years ago, when it was 200,k mikes less.

    First time "real" painting.

Update: I used a reducer in the clear after having been instructed not to. (and he wonders why he gets a run) I had not realized I reduced until long after dark. After talking to a couple collision guys, they said they always use reducer in the clear. NBD. I'm going to change my "spit happens"...

    First time "real" painting.

Well...that was special. Hood is done and my brain is still doing 100mph. Shooting the color was completely different than the clear. Clear was like shooting water. With the color, my passes were spaced too wide and I moved too fast. With the clear, I moved way too slow. Ended up with a little...

    First time "real" painting.

I know this thread has been side-tracked a couple times...guys, that's ok. You never know when somebody is learning from it. And that's what it's all about. This painting thing is freaking expensive and mistakes can be costly in both time and money. And it certainly doesn't help the confidence...

    Bvllsh!t on craigslist.

The ones I get a laugh out of is the campers. 3 or 4 years ago, they way over-paid for a camper. Went camping 1 season and realized every other dimwitt did the same thing and a campground fill of id10ts like them is not camping. So now they want to sell it for whatever they owe on it and because...

    First time "real" painting.

What does the data sheet say? It may take a special paint. I know in my R/C hobby days, (1970's) there was a company that put out a phenominal epoxy paint. K&B Super Poxy. I ran that thru my Paashe airbrush. And painted a flame job on my hovercraft. Good times.

    First time "real" painting.

Update: Hood looks good...I guess. And then the sanding starts. 400g. Took 2-3 hours to sand it baby butt smoof, by hand. I got 1 tiny spec of metal showing thru on one corner...I think the coat was light or hand sand heavy. Other than that, it's flawless. Not 1 dimple. I can't believe it. Fixed...

So the panels do have stone chips clear to metal with rust starting. No perfs, which totally surprised me. So the 3 coats, was to get enuf on that when I sand down the bdeep spots will get filled snd I really needed the gun time. And yes, just to get the hood painted if I did all the prep work...

    First time "real" painting.

I get the fumes thing. Fortunately, both my nearest neighbors have crntral A/C, so all they smell is their own recycled stank. And the guy 2 doors down, is too busy chain smoking weed (talk about stink) and drinking beer, the only thing he can smell is "failure". We have quite a bit of farming...

    First time "real" painting.

Popped that cherry this afternoon. Other than some airbrush-ing in high school, I've never painted with anything other than a rattle can. And let me just say, "Holy Krap" that $$$$ is expensive. Over $200 just in a quart of urathane primer and all the ******-berries that goes with it. I stopped...

Fix Slamming Doors - Striker Door Latch Repair

Holy moly!! That PEX tube trick worked!! Used an exacto razor saw. It qas a bit of a trick to get them on. Used very long needle nose plyers to open the tubing up. At the first close, the truck muttered something under it's exhsust...couldn't quite make it out...sounded like, "took ya long enuf.."

    Filling small holes without welding

Has anyone tried an aluminum pop rivet or brass counter-sink head screw? Cave the hole inward a bit with a big center punch. Install rivet/screw of right size and use loctite. Hand file and sand level, then bondo. Maybe small copper riviets that require peening? I would think gas welding would...

    Dead in the water.

Well, yesterday went from elation to deflation in a short hurry....but I can still laugh at it. Went to my favorite toy store, Summit Racing, and pruised the "returned" rack, which has been pretty bare lately, and what before my lustful eyes appeared a polished cast aluminum Edelbrock high flow...

    Retiree bronze plaque.

A tad bit off topic and not even GM... But I don't have a ford to get on the board...so here goes : For sale: 2 Bronze Retiree Plaques. These were the master patterns from which all other plaques were made. So yes, these are about 3% larger than the actual plaques Ford retirees received. These...

    OEM Breather replacement

Ok, I have found the metal breather and lid that houses the air filter and the parts houses want over $200 for them. In my OP, I said I wanted to cut off the snorkle part of the breather and patch in a piece of sheet metal to cover the opening, left from the removal of the entire snorkle. I had...
