    Buying a rebuilt transmission th350

Should fit. Look up your truck and the truck it came out of on an auto parts store website. if both part numbers are the same, you are good to go. I personally would rebuild the one you have, unless of course the case is damaged.

Skool me on timing w/o timing tab

If you can mark TDC just use a timing light with advance. I haven't needed to time an engine in probably 15 years but I still have my old timing light. Looks like this one.

    Highway vibration 55-65mph

I am a field engineer for a major car company. I deal with vibrations all the time. Just because tires are new does not mean they are good. Road Force is a trade name used by Hunter for radial runout of a tire. Hunter usually measures it in Pounds. The Hunter machines can be set for hundredths...

please recommend a transmission dipstick that isn’t junk.

I just ordered a Pioneer brand dipstick tube for my V3500. I get it Monday. I am hoping it fits well. My original one the bracket is missing. If it does not fit right I will try and make a bracket and weld it on. I will let you know how it fits. Around here Junk Yards are a thing of the past...

    First major project vehicle!

For a few years, 1988-1991, GM built both Squarebody trucks and the new style trucks. For 1987 they renamed the C and K series to R and V. In 1988 the C and K series was the new style truck and the R and V series was a squarebody. They did this because they had to fulfill the military contract.

'87 GMC Suburban V1500 1/2 ton - replacing leaf springs

It is all good. Tone does not come across in posts. Gasoline weighs just over 6lbs per gallon depending on temperature, of course. Water is 7 lbs. I would have thought it was heavier too but was surprised when I checked. As someone said above, Just use 7lbs per gallon. Water is a good one to...

1986 C20 r12->134a conversion now fries every OEM/ACDelco original style compressor installed

I have converted many vehicles to R134a from R12 over the years. Never had any issues. GM, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Volvo, Jaguar, VW, Audi.....and more. I have some questions. 1. When you replaced the compressor did you drain the oil from the new compressor? (They get shipped, typically, with...

    Need help with part number/name 1987 V3500 7.4L N TBI

Thanks. That is a help.On the driver's side there is a plug in the hole. There is no electric fan on this truck. I did not take it apart. The body guy did and he has pictures from when he took it apart so I can check that way. I just want to replace it before I fill the cooling system. Anybody...

    Need help with part number/name 1987 V3500 7.4L N TBI

I am in the process of restoring my truck. I am working on the engine and I need help with a part number for this item. This is a coolant Sensor/Sender/Switch, not sure which. I do know this is not the coolant temp sensor. That is screwed into the intake near the thermostat. This one is on the...

Vent Window rubber replacement or replace?

I need to rebuild mine. Once everything is apart the body shop said he will paint them. Then I can reassemble. I watched some videos and it looks easy enough. I guess I will find out soon.

'87 GMC Suburban V1500 1/2 ton - replacing leaf springs

I bought springs for my V3500 from a local spring shop. They asked me a few questions and I ended up with stock springs. A 1 ton truck rides hard enough I did not want HD springs for the front or rear. Since this truck has been in my family since 1988 and I have hauled or towed with it many...

    Mirror replacement

PM me. I am restoring my 1987 GMC V3500 and it had those mirrors. I am replacing them with the "normal" style mirrors. I can sell you my pair. The left mirror glass is broken but otherwise they are good to go. PM me if interested.

454 long block replacement and associated sensor issues

The coolant temp sensor you showed with the button type fitting takes a spade connector. It slides on sideways so on with a standard type will also work. The 8th digit of your VIN will tell you what the original engine was supposed to be. "N" is a throttle body injected 7.4L and a "W" is for...

    1986 Automatic Transmission Leak

Thanks for the tip on Lube Locker for gaskets. Cork is good for bulletin boards but not gaskets unless you like leaks. I have used rubber with a metal insert that works well. You actually can reuse it a couple times. I think Moroso is one place that sells them. If it were me, I would clean off...

    Smoking Ground Wire

The small ground was carrying all the current. The big cable is your problem. Not connected, bad connection , etc. Perform a voltage drop test and diagnose the issue instead of guessing.

    Overheating 87 TBI

You should give your system a nice flush. Get some Citric Acid powder. Mix 1lb to 5 qts of warm water. I would mix up 2lbs worth. 1. Drain cooling system 2 Remove thermostat 3. Fill cooling system with the citric acid mixture 4. run engine for at least 15mins. 1 hour is best. 5. drain the...

    Whats your opinion these welders?

I have the Hobart 210MVP. I looked at Miller and Lincoln too. The Hobart is a no frills machine but still good and is made by Miller. This welder will do 120v welding if that is what you need. It has a transformer not an inverter. The downside is it is much heaver than an inverter model. I am...

    POR 15 equivalents?

In the past I have used POR15 but was not super happy. This was back in the late 80s when the first started and it peeled. Since that time they have added cleaner, prep and other products to their lineup. Back then they only had the black rust coating. A few years ago I started to repair a...

    Need source for exhaust 1987 V3500 4wd 7.4L N

I am trying to locate a premade exhaust for my truck. It is in the restoration shop and would love to just buy a bolt on set up. I am OK with stock exhaust or a true dual system. I just want it to fit. Does anyone know of a source? My truck is a 1987 GMC V3500 4WD 7.4L N, single cab, 8 foot...
