    Entering a show on Saturday.

Nice truck! I have the opposite- except a white one. Car shows are awesome. I go to them and cars and coffee as often as I can. As I continue to work on my truck it looks better and better and a lot of people stop to look at it now. And quite a few ask me about it and it's fun to talk about...

    What are these for?

Looks so familiar! I took both fender liners out and had to patch both sides. I fabricated a patch, secured it with sealant and small self drilling screws. (no welder). The patch was pretty large and overlapped some of the mounting holes where it attaches to the fender. I had to use longer...

    Glove Box Repair

All great ideas. I bought a new Glovebox liner and it is stiff and doesn't line up too good when it is closed on the bottom due to how stiff the hinge is. I saved the original one as it still has the sticker on it and I wanted to somehow save it. Maybe it's better to repair the original with...

Will Headers work with TBI and older engine

Thanks for the replies- it sounds like a lot of time, cost for little gain. I will have to get major exhaust work or complete new exhaust to accommodate the long tube headers. It runs so good at this point I am not going to mess with it. And right now the stock exhaust does have the ports for...

Will Headers work with TBI and older engine

I have an 87 Chevy Squarebody short bed 4 X 4, SM 465 manual 4 speed I have mostly restored as a good driver/cars n coffee meet truck. It is somewhat of a restomod- it has a 1974 Monte-Carlo or Chevelle 350 with factory 87 TBI and electronics. It has stock exhaust manifolds with dual exhaust...

    Oil dripping around starter

The leak was a cracked oil pan- where the bulge is for the dip stick. The mounting hole for the screw was very close to the bulge and the original installing shop used a hex head bolt that cut into the oil pan when they tightened it. The oil leaked out above the pan on the ledge and ran down...

    Fuel Line Repair at TBI

This sounds like a great idea too if you can get in there to tighten the connections. The new Dorman connector actually came with a steel splice and all I would need to do is cut the stock lines, insert into the connector and tighten the hex nuts. I was initially planning to do this but there...

Lacking power, 87 Sierra 5.7l TBI

Mine had no power for a long time- I thought it was just attributable to a low HP 350. Brought it to a couple of shops, no one seemed to know. Check the basics- like the fuel lines. While replacing the valve cover gaskets I discovered the main fuel line- the 3/8 one on the LH side to the TBI...

    Oil dripping around starter

I found the source of the leak. It is leaking at the back of the oil pan around the arch. I pulled the inspection cover and the oils lines were dripping straight down it. So I left the cover off drove it around, then I could see the lines going down the back of the pan. The rear main does...

    Oil dripping around starter

Hi can you clarify what the leak actually was? Update.....I brought the truck to my local good shop that works pretty much on trucks. They said they had a camera and checked out the rear main....not leaking, all dry around it. So they said they saw oil coming down from the right rear back of...

    Stake Pocket Body tie downs

Thanks, looks good. Did you have to drill holes in the bed? I don't think my bed has any holes in it anywhere. I guess I can drill some holes as long as I have access to the back side to install and tighten a nut.......That's why I was thinking to use the stake pockets.

    Oil dripping around starter

Working on vehicles for over 45 years I know this. But what if the dip stick is incorrect and you add too much or not enough oil? I was asking about the proper amount of oil for a 74 5.7- is it 5 quarts or 6? I found so much wrong with this truck that I had to fix from people that did not...

    Stake Pocket Body tie downs

My 87 Squarebody has the typical stake pockets in the top of the bed. It has nothing in the bed for tie downs, etc. What do you guys use? Are the stake pockets standard size you can install the typical D Rings or loops that I see on line? I'd rather not drill in the bed to install anything...

    Oil dripping around starter

I want to ask about oil capacity for the engine. When that shop filled it with oil, they put in 6 quarts. It showed full to the dipstick line. When I recently changed the oil I measured 6 quarts coming out of it. I was not sure what to put in so I would not over fill it. I put in a little...

    Oil dripping around starter

Good point on the valve covers. I bought the correct valve covers for the year engine. They have 2 ports- actually three- one for PCV, one for breather and one for oil fill cap. There was a plug in the one for breather, I had to remove the plug and put in a grommet, then the breather. There...

    Oil dripping around starter

It would not surprise me if it was not done properly. The guy who runs the shop is really knowledgeable although I am not sure all of the techs are a high caliber. And that it took 2 months to do the work. I initially tried the shop out to fix my dual gas tanks issue. It would only pull from...

    Oil dripping around starter

This is good idea, I'll take the cover off and have a look. When the rear main was done the first time, it definitely came directly from this area- this time, it's around the starter.

    Oil dripping around starter

This is interesting as the shop that did the rear main stated that they had to pull transfer case, tranny, etc. to do the rear main. It was leaking about the same as it is now but it needed a clutch so I had them do the rear main at the same time. It has a 74 block from a Chevelle or Monte...

Bought an '87 long bed on Bring a Trailer a few days ago

Welcome, you did fine. I read BAT every single day and think I remember seeing this one. I check out every Squarebody looking at the picture to help restore my 87 V10 short box with the 4 speed. I paid top dollar for mine from a small dealer a year and a half ago. I paid way too much and I...

    Oil dripping around starter

I need some help diagnosing an oil leak in my 1987 Squarebody V10 with a 74 5.7 in it, SM 465 manual 4 speed. I have an oil leak, drips that originate around the starter dripping from both sides and flows down the protective plate at the bell housing and drips on the floor. I have looked all...

    Front End Sheet Metal Assembly

I just sanded, refinished, patched and re-painted my inner fender liners and entire front end. The fender liners came off easily, I did them separately. Then I just bolted them back on. I sanded, masked, primed and painted everything else once the front fascia was off, exposing everything nicely.

4x4 with 31x10.5/15 tire. Anyone running this size tire on stock lift??

I have a stock 87 V10 4 X 4, stock height, original springs no lift. It has 32 X 11.50 mud tires on stock rally wheels on it and it looks great, perfect in my opinion. A little better than 31 X 10.50.
