    Carb at high alt

Big updates: I installed a mechanical fan and it works great!! -summit racing 7 blade 19” steel fan -Hayden severe duty clutch -LMC 2 piece shroud for small block trucks About $200 altogether. AC is still cold. I’ve climbed several intense grades in the Sierra Nevada mountains, and never been...

    Carb at high alt

So, I should just convert back to a mechanical fan and the giant wind tunnel factory shroud? I guess the physics check out on that. My new 2023 RAM 2500 has a mech fan, and it never gets hot, even when towing heavy up serious grades. Should I use a clutch or direct connection flex blade fan? I’m...

    Carb at high alt

I threw away the giant factory wind tunnel shroud and hard mount fan a couple years ago. I always assumed the airflow would blow right thru the fans at highway speed. I’ll either look around on summit for a better shroud or just cutting some wind flaps in my current setup. or could I remove my...

    Carb at high alt

https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/overheating-climbing-a-mountain.40181/ Here is a thread of mine from a year ago. I have a big new 4 core alum radiator, electric 2700cfm fans. I’m guessing it’s always gonna run hot because I have a 383 with decent compression and a big lumpy cam. Other...

    Carb at high alt

Cool thanks guys. Do you think leaning it out would help with heat buildup as well? The motor quickly gets up to 230* when climbing. Is that normal?

    Carb at high alt

I’m looking at doing some high altitude overlanding in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I live at 2000 feet MSL, and I’d like to drive up to 10,000feet MSL. Are there any quick hacks I can do to keep the engine alive at that altitude? it’s a 383 with an edelbrock 600 carb

    Sagging front springs?

I think the ride quality is just fine. I was initially concerned about the height difference of the wheel wells. After taking several measurements, the 2 front springs are perfectly symmetrical. I don’t see any broken bolts or pins. The parts to swap in new springs are about $450 altogether...

    Sagging front springs?

I have a 1978 GMC K25 with a 383 SBC and TH350/NP203. I can’t tell if the front leaf springs are worn out or not. -the driver side wheel well sits about 1” higher than the passenger side. -the springs have an upward bend. Each front spring bends up 3” total. -the springs have 2 ply. Even...

What's the good AC compressor these days?

I’ve had trouble with the “4 seasons” brand A6 style compressor. I’m on my 3rd one in a year. I installed one myself, and had the other 2 professionally installed by reputable shops. The clutch in the first one actually caught on fire.

    Overheating climbing a mountain

Ah. I have neither of those things. My fans are nice and tight to the radiator back end, but I have no aero help in front by the core support. I’ll rig something up this weekend.

    Overheating climbing a mountain

I think I found the culprit. I pulled the temp gauge sensor & dropped it into a pot of boiling water. The needle shot up past 240*, which is physically impossible. Once water boils, it can’t get above 212*. I shot the sensor & water with an IR temp gun just to verify. My Equus brand temp gauge...

    Overheating climbing a mountain

Hello, I’m a longtime reader, first time poster. My 1978 K25 resto project is running great, but it overheats when driving up the Sierra Nevada mountains. Tech stuff: -383 SBC (mercury marine block) -9.5:1 compression -Moderate cam (boat cam) -Summit iron vortec heads. 64cc chambers...
