    RETRO-Mod: Jeep intermediate steering shaft

Definitely curious to hear how this one turns out!

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

I've thought about going this route, too. One day, I would like to get a ham license

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

Thanks! I got one in the mail the other day. My best guess at avoiding drilling holes in the body is making a bracket off of the receiver hitch to clearance it away from the body a little bit. I'm sure this is still less-than-ideal, but if it doesn't work well, maybe i'll switch to a magnetic...

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

Okay, it's been a while since I've been on here, but the project is (of course) snowballing! I cleared out the garage to paint the new drywall, still haven't hooked up the CB or antenna, but sent the factory radio out to get repaired by Joe Sciarrino (great to work with, it all seems to...

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

I'm surprised- especially out in Texas. I'd think there'd be some dead spots for cell phones where people would want another comms option.

I do love old Buicks! I had a '65 Skylark GS 4 speed, '87 turbo Regal, and a '70 Skylark. The CB on the '70 would have been awesome. Maybe that Wilson would be the way to go. Where did you sneak the cable in through? I'd like to avoid drilling holes, if possible.

Haha! I looked it up on YouTube. This is the first I've ever heard of/seen this

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

Yeah, maybe I will eventually switch to a center mounted antenna on the roof. I've read that running dual antennas directly across from each other can be detrimental if the space between them is insufficient. I think I can fab up a plate that should be more than strong enough and act as a good...

Thank you! I don't see many of 'em with this color combo.

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

Thanks! I have considered it. I may need to get a longer cable, but no biggie. I could probably sneak the cable out of a barn door and make a mount (CUCV-style) on the side of the bumper, but I'd be losing a couple of feet of height above the roofline. If it's on the side, it would largely avoid...

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

Thanks for the feedback! Right. Not a huge fan of drilling holes like that. Good point. It's definitely a last-ditch effort, I see way more CB usage out west than I do on this side of the Mississippi. Maybe it's mostly for wheeling/off-roading to talk to spotters, I'm not super familiar with...

Whip antenna for CB on a Suburban

Hey all, I know there have been a few threads out there, but I was hoping to get a little more feedback/guidance, and pictures if possible. Long story short(sih)... I bought an '89 V2500 sight unseen off of FB Marketplace and road tripped it back home to Ohio with my brothers during the...

    No crank, no start

Alright. Got a chance to get back to it this weekend. She's back in action! Seems like there were two simultaneous issues: 1) The ignition switch 2) Bad connection on the "s" terminal A few weeks back, I put the new ignition switch in, and it started up once or twice. I put the old one back...

    No crank, no start

I didn't see a number or any writing on it. The red wire even has "Fusible Link" written on it to help identify, but I didn't see anything on the purple wire
  17. F

    No crank, no start

Yeah, I'm definitely going to have to cut it off and put a new ring terminal on it. I've just never seen anything like that before and figured it probably served some purpose. The red wire definitely has a fusible link.

I want to drive an '89 suburban 700 miles home, what should I know?

I bought my first '89 Suburban sight unseen and road tripped it back from Oregon to Ohio and made a week and a half trip out of it, visiting Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons along the way. I think it was about 3500 miles, all-in. Definitely expect some things to go wrong, and don't rush it. That...

    No crank, no start

It's been a while since I've been able to get back out to the garage to work on. Does anyone know the significance of this plastic portion on the purple wire to the starter? Doesn't seem like a fusible link to me? Can I just cut that off and attach a new ring terminal?
  20. F

    No crank, no start

Alright, so the starter and solenoid both tested okay. I guess the next step is check the S terminal purple wire and that fusible link wire.

    No crank, no start

Thank you! This is definitely helpful. The dash lights briefly flickered to life when I moved that purple wire. I pulled the distributor and I'm going to have the solenoid checked out. If that doesn't fix it, then maybe the problem is with the wire itself?

    No crank, no start

Hahahaha. I named my first square body "Fight Milk" and that was definitely the inspiration!
  23. F

    No crank, no start

Yeah, I wonder if I should just replace that wire while I'm at it. Or I guess I could cut that plastic piece off and solder/heat shrink a ring terminal on the end of it. Probably not as weatherproof and may cause issues down the road.

    No crank, no start

Thank you. My thought was "engine control switch" also meant solenoid, but I wasn't sure. I was wiggling the purple wire around a little bit on the S terminal before it broke, but before it broke, that is when the dash lights came on and the power windows worked. After it broke, I had someone...

    No crank, no start

Alright. So I started checking the starter. I was wiggling around the purple wire at the s terminal, and (of course) broke it. So, I'll need to figure out a way to get a good connection and fix that wire, or replace the wire completely. However, when I was wiggling that wire, the person I had to...
