    update on the truck. The shop (Sam's) worked to track down vacuum leaks first. They did find that the EGR valve, on the top of the intake by the carb, was leaking at the gasket on a two sides. I guess when I took it off I damaged the gasket. even with all the vacuum lines plugged and leaks...

    I did get a new carb as a precaution. an eldelbrock 1406. I got one from amazon incase wanted to return it. Ill see what the guys at the shop have to say once they take a look at the truck.

    I called Sam's they seemed to understand the issue and age of the technology. Once I dropped it off I was encouraged by them having an old 70s GTO on the rack.

    @SirRobyn0 I think that you said that the decel valve should be on the front of the carb. I dont see one. you commented on a pic already that neither did you. I believe the EGR valve is the one on intake manifold passenger side. I did remove it to get the valve cover off. it was put back on...

    I have tried to adjust the screws as was instructed. the problem is that it still wont stay idling enough for me to do anything. I replace the cap and rotor. that needed to be done. so that is new cap/rotor, plugs, and wires. I ran a compression check . 175psi on all 8 cylinders...

    Here is a video of the truck the next day. Cold start. I has a high cold idle then just drops out and dies. not idling unless I baby it a bit.

    A couple of videos. 1. Cold start. actually ran well for 1m 30 secs. (very surprising) 2. Typical run. Starts fine. dies if the throttle not used. 3. Starts fine. dies if the throttle not used.

    So electrical tape. I have looked at this. the plug has the locking tab broken. so I guess he taped it. it is due for new tape or a fix. second yellow is the temp sensor that goes in the air filter housing. It is sitting there so that I can have all the hoses connected and air filter...

    @SirRobyn0 I dont see that decel valve. there is a valve on the backside of the carb by the dist. it is hooked up to a vacuum on the back of the carb. this was never disconnected. I added some pics of what the current state looks like. Still need to check for leaks.

    Thanks all for the responses. im a simple man. air, fuel, spark. all you need right? hehe. ok here are some picks of what I removed. the Dist Adv was originally hookup up to a vacuum that is temp controlled. it now goes to a vacuum directly on the manifold.
