    Rear End Gearing

We were looking to bring down the peak torque for an ls swap using a different cam, but after further study can see it needs to be rear end gear ratio, as the cam will not change the power band v. rpm relationship. Rear end ratio is therefore everything, ( and don't forget to measure tire...

    Dingleball Hones

I'm sure your all over that you need the expandable straight hones to clean up a bore, and the dingle balls just put a cross hatch finish on to hold an oil film. If you use the balls to "re-furb" a bore, they will not hold a true straight wall, and just follow any bulges or ridges already there ..

    Rear Splash Panel

"GM stopped using them after 1980. Cost cutting measure I am sure...." Man - how did we get to a point where 3 shades of silver grey and a decal set are the new car "options" v. the 27 different colours, 8 engine option packages on 5 different trim levels that it took to sell a car in the 70's...

    Leaf Spring Torque

Also, I would drive the truck a bit to get some movement into the suspension. That will settle the bushes ( and any internal bind ), then check and "re-torque".

    Eaton MLocker

Have you considered an ARB air locker. Not sure how price compares for you, however they are heavy duty, and can be turned "on" and "off" using a small air compressor that engages a dog internally.

    74 C10 rear end interchange

Ha - never thought of that, too used to stick shift I guess... Maybe you can remove the dust shield and inspect the flex plate that way, and also remove the trans pan to check for garbage in there also. Other than that, if the diff internals look OK you would have to drop the tranny to inspect ...

Looking for new tailgate. 85 K5 Blazer.

Hi all - sorry what is the difference with the later model tailgates to the earlier ones ? Just the external body mould line at the top lip ? LMC sells up to '81. I prefer good ( un rusted ) used parts to "new" stampings anyway. If you are in the high desert area you should have no problem...

    74 C10 rear end interchange

Hi - all the above is great advice, however it is very hard to provide accurate advice "remotely". From what you describe, it may be that you have problems with the transmission and / or torque converter mounting?? You should not be able to spin the wheels with the transmission in park. I would...

    Sound dampening

i'm really conflicted about using this stuff. It has been a HUGE job to remove from previous projects, and have found that it traps moisture on the floor leading to rust. I am NOT putting this stuff back in our new truck after a full internal clean out and respray, and am going to try a...

Tire suggestions for lifted 86 suburban

Tyre "disposal" is at $20 - 30 each here now, so we drop our take offs at our local friendly farmer that uses them to hold down tarps on massive topsoil and feed windrows - recycled / upcycled, "free" disposal ( fuel and time costs ) and not being buried in landfill etc. ...

welcome from Gippsland, VIC. I think we need an OZ sub- registry and / or meet sometime for all the members on this side of the "pond" ( at least the Eastern states ?.. ) FWIW have a good look at the conversion before putting it on the road. We recently got a roady on an OBD ( 1990 extra cab )...

Thats too cool. I think it was the same guy that set up an old site back in the day with all the original manufacturing brochures for squarebodies ( best site intro ever - "whats all this then ... ") . Thats one of the things that got me into these trucks in the first place - finally someone...

Post 454 rebuild and oil consumption

yeah - I would "start" with break in procedure. Hopefully the shop will have given you a list of "do's and dont's" when you first picked it up. If the bores have glazed over, you will never get it back( ie it is the mechanical seal developed between rings and bore, not oil viscosity that will...

Hidden Rattle Found, Update Not Found!

Just had to replace the rear muffler on my sons truck. Made an annoying rattle when you started up which then went away at higher rpm. Had blown out an internal baffle, but you couldn't see anything from outside. May be worth a look ??

    Engine Swap Transmission Selection

I would suggest the 4l80E as it is heavier duty - may give you more options going forward on a truck. The 4l60 over here is used on the sedan, and seems a bit undercooked -. Agree with rebuilding yourself, and getting the ATSG book. Also fit a stage I kit while you are at it, and get the full...
