LED rope lights under the hood; problems?

@84 C20 @78c10bigten i think these photos may be slightly overexposed for the actual lighting.. been a while since I took them. But the two COB lights make it easy to work under the hood without a flashlight. The on/off switch for them is the green rocker switch on the aux fuse box panel on...

LED rope lights under the hood; problems?

@78c10bigten dug through my build thread real quick and found this shot. It doesn't really show the brightness of them, but moreso the placement of the COB strips.

LED rope lights under the hood; problems?

I'll see if I have a photo of em from way back. Two was pretty good, four would be a ton better. Also think i'll put some at the very back of the hood to help eliminate shadows in the engine bay.

LED rope lights under the hood; problems?

I stuck a couple of the COB led strips right at the front of the hood. Right about the inside edge of the radiator support. Just two of them were certainly bright enough to check basic things and being high enough to not have a glaring light in your face. Put a switch right next to my underhood...

    broke my truck a little

@Tobe's84Jimmy i hear ya. Just throwing out a thought that might've slipped by. The headers may have been salvageable, but probably more work and cost involved than ordering up a new set.

    Functional cowl induction hood

You could probably take an available aftermarket hood and just build an air cleaner to seal to it.

    Wheel and Tire Size

I can dig up a photo later, but had 32 x 11.5 Yokohama Geolandar AT-S on 15x10 wheels with 4" backspacing with stock suspension. Currently running a 4-5" lift with 2" body lift on 35 x 12.5 on the same wheels. The 32's were still inside the rear fenders, fronts were either flush or less than...

    Spring Bushings Moving

The only way I see that the bushing could move out on its own is if there is now less friction between the bushing and spring than when it was originally installed. Perhaps the bushings you replaced were a touch undersized (talking mere thousandths) or like others have said, the spring eye has...

    new truck need help!!!

No worries. Thickness of the leaves allow us to compare whether your current pack is the same as a factory pack with leaves removed, or if its a different pack entirely for a lighter duty truck.

Using Jeep steering shaft to improve square body steering

The overall intention is to eliminate the rag joint, right?

have you seen this re-wire kit?

@spenser21 just out of curiosity, that orange wire with the white plug towards the top of your fuse box doesn't happen to have a fuse holder about 3-4" away? I've got the same wire on my truck and been curious as to what it's been going to for a while now. Always assumed it was for the camper...

Using Jeep steering shaft to improve square body steering

I'd like to know if it would work on the early trucks as well, but I have the assumption that it would be either quite the project for us or that we'd probably have to cut up a shaft to retain the splines. Retro's thread is stickied at the top of the subforum...

    new truck need help!!!

Are you sure its sitting at stock height and doesn't actually have a set of lift springs in the front? Do the front springs have a negative(downwards)/flat or positive(upwards) arch to them? If its a positive arch, then you have a lifted front end. Negative would be stock springs. My assumption...

    Welder

Hahaha I remember high school when you gotta try to trade favors for everything and anything just to spend time with the girl ya got your eye on. Guaranteed you'll end up using that welder for quite a few more projects than you initially anticipate. Instead of it being the "nahh we can't fix...

    Best Universal Joint Brand/Type

    new truck need help!!!

Possible the PO removed a leaf or two to soften up the ride or allow for more flexing.. Maybe he also swapped the leaf pack out with one from a light duty truck? Did any of the C10's ever come with the 3/1 pack? What about suburbans or k5's?

    new truck need help!!!

The number of leaves in a leaf pack doesn't necessarily mean a difference in ride height. Ride height is dependent on spring rate and the spring arch. Higher spring rate means it takes more weight to compress the springs the same amount thus leading to a taller ride height, but will be left with...

Code Readers, OBDl OBDll and CAN Bus

A while back I got one of the bluetooth OBDII readers to sync up with the Torque Pro app. Worked nicely when our '03 Burban was throwing a code for the O2 sensor. Also cool to see estimated mileage/rpms/0-60mph times, etc. on the '99 Tahoe too.

    Welder

I've heard the harbor freight welders can do pretty well as long as you use better wire like the Lincoln flux core. Could be pretty spotty when using the harbor freight stuff. I saved up a couple bucks to go for the Lincoln 140. It was as big as I could go without rewiring the whole breaker...

    Custom grille

A flush mounted light would look pretty cool. May have to increase the square tubing up to 2" or so depending on how thick the mounting is on the lights. The drawings were just my take on your original sketch.
