    big block heads question

In my opinion if you are doing a low dollar build I always use the early model semi closed chamber big oval port heads , brings the compression up and they and they are torque monsters , and you can port and put bigger valves in them if you want , work very well in a truck , (ls-5 and l-35 , 290...

    Do I need a Lift?

I could'nt agree more , I love 12's , my kids truck has 35's on 14 wide and my mud tires for my blazer are 40's on 14 wide's but most people dont want to get really fat like that, hard on parts and the cops dont like the wide stuff to much thats why I said 10's. Looks wide enough for most and a...

    nv450+468c.i.= booom?

Yes the 400 is an auto , I was just telling you my combo. I never have had my motor dyno'ed but with my combo compared to other street car big blocks I have built my guess is 525hp and it has tons of torque. My crew cab has 44 inch swamper's and 4.88 gears and it will fry them on the street.

    Help Needed w/ Wheel Sizing

I dont have any pic's of 8 wide wheels , (I like 10's or wider) but you will be fine with 3.75 or 4" back space. The more backspace you have the less offset you will have. Backspace = towards the inside of your truck Offset = towards the outside of your truck

    nv450+468c.i.= booom?

I dont know about the 4500 , they are not bullet proof , there are a few guy's I have talked to that have sprayed them all over the ground with big torque , but I have never had one. I would do some big time leg work on your combo before pulling the trigger. I am a fan of turbo 400/205 combo for...

    Do I need a Lift?

Lift it for sure , (I lift everything I own , but thats just me) I dont like the look of stock height square's. If you want a mean look and off road your truck here and there I would go with a 4" lift and 33/12.50 tires on 10" wide wheels. 10 wide wheels gives you a big tire look going down...

    quad shock brackets

Just letting you guys know I have ran a lot of dual shock setups on my square's and if you are lifted and wheel off road a lot I have destroy'ed all of the lower shock mount's when running duals. If you are mostly on the street and light off road you will be fine , (just giving you the heads...

What have you done to your square lately??

Man I am bummed , pretty much all new parts on my 77 blazer but its started leaking trans. fluid out of the adapter plate between the turbo 400 / 205 so that is my project this weekend.Thought I had gone though just about everything but I guess not , it always the little things you find after...

    rear axle seal/gasket replacement?

You have a 14 bolt full float if it has not been swapped out and there is usually a thin steel gasket or shim between the axle and the hub , but you really dont need it . There is no seal in the housing for the axle. Tilt the axle up so oil does not run out , clean the surfaces really well and...

can i use leafs out of a half ton pack in my 3/4 ton pack??

A re-arc at a spring shop with some springs replaced around here is around 65.00 each. As far as center bolts , our napa has all different legnths and sizes. I always get ones that are longer than I need that way you can line up the springs with ease then cut them off.

can i use leafs out of a half ton pack in my 3/4 ton pack??

I have done that before with out problems , I mean the right way is to have a re arc done with the broken leafs replaced but you will have no problems making your own spring packs with the springs you have , I would get new center bolts before you start.

Remove Adj Sleeve in Yoke? how...

wd-40 is no good for what you are doing , you need pb-blaster , then let it soak and do it a bunch of times. I have had them stuck before and did the blaster thing , then hammered the sides , then used a 3/8" impact with the castle socket and it has worked for me everytime so far.

    Front hub mystery

Is your front end a 10 bolt or a dana 44 ? If its a 44 it was for sure swapped out. I really dont mess with 80's trucks much but there was a spindle difference in the 73 thru 78 fronts , I think the cut off year was 75 and under small inner and 76 up large inner , but I am not 100% on the year...

    Caster issues after lift?

Did you install a steering arm with your lift ? You want your drag link to be as flat as possible , so you should run a steering arm for a lift. Could be caster , most lift springs come with degree shims on them to roll the pinion up for better drivline angle , but you really dont need them...

    my dirt cheap 454 build

If you are having the heads done , I would try an find some early model ,(big oval) closed chamber heads ,(063 , 290 , 215 , 702 ,etc..) and get them done instead. They are not the best for flow but with stock pistons and a thin head gasket , (.025) you would bring the compression up to 9 to 1...

    Wider wheels and tires

This is my blazer 9" lift , cut fender's , 8 lug , 15x14 bart wheels , 40x17x15 monster mudders and it still hits when twisted up. I use these tire's for the mud and off roading in the winter and spring time . My other tire's are 38's on 12 wide for everyday use.

    Anti wraps

All you have to do is roll the pinion down a bit so when you are on it it's in line with the driveshaft and your axle wrap is gone , (done it lots of times) I would only use a ladder bar , or bars for high horsepower rig's , mud racing , etc... not needed if your pinion angle is right on a...
