    Early 4.3 upgrade?

I’ll add that the 700r4 or even a TH350c would likely increase economy by the addition of a lockup torque converter. Or improper TV cable adjustment (I see Rick beat me too it) or any reused parts are not being cleaned properly or replaced at the time of overhaul. Things like cooler lines...

A Technical Comedy [Only After the Fact]

I’ve not done with while running, but have locked the keys in my 76 a couple times at work. Thankfully got it opened up with a bent piece of Tig wire. I’ve gotten into the habit of when working on a vehicle to have a window rolled down, to prevent something like that happening. Especially on...

Lotsa nice squares on CL out here right now!

Saw this on marketplace. Asking price is $14k. Reasonable in my opinion and appears to be pretty well put together. Checks all the right boxes for me. Big fan. Perfect rig for hitting up the county fairs in the summer time.

What new tools have you got lately?

Took advantage of the 40% off Quinn tools and got the extendable 3/4 ratchet (same or similar to the EZ-Red), adapter kit and then two more of my favorite flashlights from HF as they are $14 each right now. On the woodworking side of things, a friend of mine on another forum had listed this...

BBC 396 wil not idle with any carb

@Beast496 beat me to it If the transfer slots are over exposed, by the butterfly being open too far, it will be running off of the transition circuit not the idle circuit, which will render the mixture screws basically useless. An engine will run with them over exposed, but will display poor...

BBC 396 wil not idle with any carb

Vacuum gauge can tell a lot. Is the balancer new or used? Has TDC been confirmed? Pointer/mark adjusted if if was off? If you are running a Holley style carb, pull it off and square the transfer slots up, set mixture screws 1 1/2 to 2 turns out as a baseline. Verify float height, needle and...

    Huck's daily - 2005 Z71 crewcab

I think it has a lot to do with one’s attitude to the subject at hand, whatever it may be. Doing something because you want to, to learn a new skill, process, method, whatever, is quite a bit different than doing it because you only want or need the result at the end. I put a lot of value on...

    Dual tank reads backwards

Is it reading the fuel level from the correct tank, but drawing from the other tank? Switch on right, drawing from left, showing fuel level for right? Or reading and drawing fuel from the left tank when on right? If it’s reading the correct tank but drawing from the other, swap the hoses at the...

36 or 38 look pretty good, but I would take that with a grain of salt as I have not messed with 2 cut gears yet. I know they read a little different than 5 cut do. 38 looks to show the “bias” well

What new tools have you got lately?

I ordered a 3/4npt regulator filter for the airline project. Where I ordered it from has free shipping over $99, the regulator alone was below that, so browsed the clearance section and filled the cart up lol. The 3/8 rubber line is temporary to feed the regulator, I’ll be going with all 3/4 ID...

    Car Hauler tips/tricks/ideas

I’m glad I’m not the only one that does (or would do) boneheaded moves like that. Forgetting to take wheel covers off I think would pair nicely with my normal routine of forgetting to unchock the wheels, then wondering why it won’t move.

    Which aftermarket LED headlights?

You might look into an H4 conversion housing and then find a suitable bulb. That is I think basically what the Holley Retrobrite is. My buddy @4x4blaze has KC headlights in his 75 K5, I think they were meant for a newer jeep, had to trim the buckets to clear them but look pretty good, glass...

Replacing rear axle on 83 k5

A 14 bolt semi floater (9.5") from a K1500 "heavy half" gmt400 pickup is a 6 lug axle. A little wider than a square body axle (it makes the front and rear track widths the same), but will require new spring perches and shock mounts. This one I built is now under my friends 75 K5.

Truck cranks and starts and dies immediately

1973 would have had points, if it has HEI now someone added it, good chance they did not bypass the resistor wire (not exactly the potential issue here, but HEI, unlike points wants a healthy 12v source at all times). On points vehicles they generally bypass the resistor when cranking to give...

    Reinforcing Door Striker

Above the strikers do you have a brass piece on the door frame and a little plate on the door in the same area? Few inches down from the top of the bedside. Full tops without the top can be pretty floppy, it can put a lot of stress on the strikers, especially if the hinges are worn or out of...
