What have you done to your square lately??

Moved the 76 back into the shop, it was hanging out in a friend’s unit while we did the work on his Dodge. Pulled it on the lift and took a look underneath. Keep in mind this truck was daily driven from 2017 to early 2023. I really was not great about washing it, so the salt got to it...

    1976 C30 dump - wheel cylinder

Should be as @PrairieDrifter stated, a 14b FF if it is a cab and chassis truck. 70s 3/4 and 1 ton SRW got a 14b FF, as did the 1 ton C&C trucks. Only 1 ton dually pickups got a Dana 70HD rear.

    Exhaust Question

$221.00 from Summit for manifold back dual kit Just pick your offset in/out mufflers. But a nice single exhaust isn't bad either. You could fab up an all stainless side pipe exhaust. ;) Was about $400 to do that with me fabbing everything up. Pipes, mufflers, bends, flex, vee bands. Not...

Someone here I think was 3d printing an adapter for those air cleaners.

What have you done to your square lately??

The cat off of the 79 was full of rust I guess, it was heavy, brought it to the local recycler, I feel like they kind of just make up a number, one person looks at it (no weighing or inspecting), says let me talk to the manager, comes back a couple minutes later. $140 for it, sure. That was...

    Exhaust collectors for manifolds

Very good point. My 76 has been open headers a couple times, most recently was when I fitted the “new” headers and before I started on making the side pipes. Just moving it around the shop it had no low end at all, pathetic really. Scavenging is real kids, it makes big difference, not only...

What does your air cleaner look like? This is what the TBI 87s I’ve been around look like:

What have you done to your square lately??

If I’m not mistaken these trucks with tbi should be just an upstream O2 sensor, no downstream (after cat). What is after the sensor is of minimal impact to its function (please correct if this is wrong). Has it been determined if the cat is visually in the way or actually in the way? If there...

And if the ones linked above are incorrect for your application, looks like that same seller offers many variations and types of downpipe stubs.

    Exhaust collectors for manifolds

To what I had removed from my 76 and 79, yes. Only difference is those have that ‘pilot’ to hold that donut gasket in place, the ones I had removed from my trucks were just bell mouthed, no pilot. So visually they seem to match, got a picture of the manifolds you intend on using? This is what...

    Exhaust collectors for manifolds

These might be suitable for your application? Otherwise if you have a decent exhaust shop around you they should be able to put that end on a stub of pipe and likely source the correct flanges too.

    Wanting 4" suspension suggestions

Potential fitment issues with the 35s depend a lot on wheel choice (width and offset/backspacing) and tire choice, if it is a true 35” tire or 34.5” tall, mud terrain with a very aggressive tread and sidewall or an all terrain with more of a highway pattern. I’m not personally experienced with...

What new tools have you got lately?

Got this tire mounted step, think this will be nice, I've got a small step ladder I use but it does the sliding away routine. Was not part of doing the Fairlane job, but was given this set of aluminum body hammers, he figured I probably have a better chance of using them than he would have. He...

    Lifter tick?

Looking at op's again looks like they are on right, the ends of the "legs" are kicked up more than I'm used to seeing and the camera angle is leading to some trickery. This is what I'm more used to seeing:

    Lifter tick?

But to the question at hand, check valves as @DoubleDingo shows, also note if any are loose, loose. Check your header bolt tightness too, sometimes they loosen up (or gasket compresses) just enough to start leaking, then once heated up seals. Tighten them back up and leak goes away.

    Lifter tick?

Not critical to your issue/question at hand, but your valve cover spreader bars are on upside down.

Tell her new tanks are a big step to reliability and not having to replace fuel filters every 500 miles or less (if your old tanks are that bad). Which is not untruthful. In my opinion, for these older vehicles using steel tanks, if they are available and of reasonable cost, it’s the better...

What have you done to your square lately??

If you remove the rocker from the equation, thus removing the valve spring and set your indicator on the pushrod itself, or use extension rods on the indicator itself to reach down to the lifter without the push rod. The spring tension of a dial indicator is almost nothing compared to a valve...

Ditto, long bed with a 20 gallon tank puts the sender right in the gap of the bed and cab (great place for it lol), the front bracket location should be the same from long to short (not 100% on that however), with the rear of the tank being the difference.

One thing to consider/remember with setup bearings vs final bearings, is that while bearings are made to tight dimensions as as far as diameters and such, the length is typically more open, for example here is Timken spec on a pinion bearing for a 14b SF: -.000 +.008 tolerance on the width is...

What CFM carb is on your truck? Engine specs? Heads, cam, intake, etc? Base timing? Are you using a vacuum gauge along with the wideband? What can happen is too big of a cam and not enough engine, or too big of a carb can create symptoms like you describe. Off idle lean spot. What happens is...
