Probably so. The schematic showed my VSS output on C15 but in reality it was on C14. I suspect the difference in My 91 Suburban V1500 vs a 1985 pickup.- ballencd

I also figured out the speedo connection. I had to install a resistor between 12vdc and the speedo signal form the DRAC. Apparently it is called a "pull up" resistor and is needed but lost when I pulled the old cluster. I put in a 4.7K ohm resistor vs the 10K in this picture and it let me set...- ballencd

In search of opinions on gear change.
I'm now running 34" ties on my 91 Suburban.....5.7 TBI, 700R4 trans and 3.42 gears. It is a bit sluggish on starts but cruses on the highway at 65-70 at 2200 rpm. I need to be pulling a trailer some so was thinking the 4.10 would be the way to go also. The tires are a bit tight in the fenders.- ballencd

Tire time need thoughts on slight size change
Back to the tire size issue. The factory tires on my 88 Burb were 235/75/SR15 and looked way too small for the fender. And I've been running 33 X 10.5 R15 for a few years now with no issues at all. They look a lot better in the wheel well also. Both pictures are of worn out tires so new...- ballencd

Thanks, Thats kinda what I have been thinking but I really didn't want to install a lift at all. I like the ride height now and don't do any off road stuff. Just don't like to get stuck in snow, mud, wet grass.- ballencd

Just put on a set of NITTO Terra Grappler LT285/75R17 and they are a tad tall for the rear of the front fenders...: ( But I still like them. The brakes are Hummer with 4 puck calipers which required larger wheels from factory. I'm still thinking on what I am going to do with the...- ballencd

CUCV vs civilian model differences?
The CUCV vehicles had a split 12/24 system with two 12 alternators but one was isolated ground and the other was not. The 24 volt power was used for Starter, Glow plugs, and NATO plug. The glow plugs used the 24v power but ran a big resister in series with them to drop the voltage to 12 volts...- ballencd

ATF coming out of vent tube
I concur with last post. The transmission pumps fluid into the transmission to transfer case adapter, apparently to lube the speedo gears and drains back into the transmission. modern size wheels that fit squarebody chevies
I'm looking at the Method MR701 wheels in 17 x 8.5. They have them with 0 mm offset which should give them a 4.5 backspacing. I want a 33 - 34" tall tire x 10.5-11.5 wide tire on my Suburban and it seems like this should fit but I get blowback from all the dealers telling me I need a 4" lift...- ballencd

Anyone running wipers bigger than 16" oem?
My wipers run slow already so I don't think 18" would work well for me. Any hints on updating the wipers on the square? Both my '88 and '91 Suburbans are slow. I replaced one of the motors thinking that would fix it but it did not run any better. -

24 volt CUCV
The alternators each charge one battery on these trucks....M1008, M1009....etc. The ambulance version is a bit different I think..? I drove an M1009 for 18 years and kept the 12/24 volt system intact. The starter as previously stated used the 24V and so did the glow plug circuit. The...- ballencd

I'm looking into this also for my 91 Suburban V1500. In addition to the axle hole size be aware of the Toyota wheels....they are the same lug pattern as the Chevy but I think they are only 12mm studs vs the 14mm on the Chevy Suburban and I think 7/16" on the GMC Suburban.
