Losing power assist when fluid warms up

Swapping my pump to a new pump (hydroboost unit) fixed my steering dilemma’s. I also installed a cooler I had from a GM800 that was laying around. It’s the little things that count :)

Losing power assist when fluid warms up

Well after farting around with the truck this morning and digging through some parts boxes I had a hydroboost unit and pump assembly. I harvested the pump and swapped it into my K10’s pump housing after a through cleaning and tahhdaa!!!! Power steering is currently staying and not overheating in...

What problems will I have when installing a 6 inch lift?

I’m a fan of rear shackle flips for they serve 2 purposes 1st they lift about 4” from the start 2nd they help correct pinion angle without having to drop the t-case. My build has a 6” kit consisting of new 6” front springs with degree shims and a 4” shackle flip with 2” add a leaf in the rear...

Losing power assist when fluid warms up

I was told something very similar when redhead tech center called me back. They said they run ATF in the boxes because it runs cooler the standard PS fluid

Losing power assist when fluid warms up

Exactly. I’ve had problems before with “new” things being bad Redhead tech center called me back, they said to run atf in the pump and swap the pump first before sending back the box. I’ll try that and report back

I have a new redhead gear box, and I pulled the pumps relief valve and cleaned it out and did a fluid flush. The pump...

Trying to get fuel to my engine, a novice's saga...

Didn’t know that GM had a “fix” for them. I know there are 2 different well plug sizes. My 86 still had the Q-jet and had a leaking plug well. While I had it removed I sealed them up and haven’t had an issue with the carb since I swapped it onto another project.

Trying to get fuel to my engine, a novice's saga...

A little more food for thought, I didn’t see what type of metered fuel leak you have on top of the motor but if it is a quadrajet the possibility of leaking fuel wells could be an issue. It has been covered on the site.

    Metal prep for frame

Blasted my frame to bare metal, blew it down with compressed air, wiped entire chassis with acetone realllly good and applied POR-15 using a foam brush. Shines like glass and was under a tarp outside for a year and still looks like the day I applied it. The product on its own is not UV stable...

Bed prep if getting spray in liner???

I’ll chime in here. My bed is quite solid for a truck that saw salt covered roads, but my truck did have a drop in liner for I don’t know how many years, but it was in there long enough to remove the paint in some areas to bare metal. While I did have my bedsides off for prepping, the same...

6" lift what wheel and tire size can I fit? I want 35's but don't know how wide of a tire and rim i can fit.

Yes a K10 re-gearing is totally dependent on HP/TQ of the motor. It is a good idea to gear down with larger tires to prevent the motor for working so hard. I geared my truck with 4:56s, the truck from factory had 3.08’s. So it would’ve been a total slug with 35s and a gutless 305. I now have a...

What are these parts called, and where can I find them?

Those columns are definitely tricky for sure. My column isn’t a tilt so it was pretty simple to rebuild. Keep at it, persistence pays off

That shaft is still a nice quality piece. I’ve used them before in the past. Keep us updated with the results

What are these parts called, and where can I find them?

Don’t waste you money on the Borgeson shaft, you can swap in a 84-94 Jeep Cherokee steering shaft for way less and it will still have u-joints instead of the rag joint. It’s a direct swap BTW
