Looking for recomendations for transmission change

My two cents... I've had nothing but trouble with 700R4s. The throttle valve cable is problematic, although it can be eliminated with some additional work inside. I would stick with a TH350, TH400 or 4L80E. Of course the 4L80E is an expensive option. But it sure is sweet!

    Coolant Reservoir Leak '87? - '91

Hello All, Anybody else struggling with coolant reservoir leaks? On the later models, I think it started in '87? and went to '91. They're mounted on the top of the right hand fender well. I have a continuous leak from the front mounting tab. I replaced this reservoir so many times I lost track...

    Best Door Hinge Lubricant

Lots of great suggestions and comments. I really appreciate all the feedback. I learned about some products I was not aware of. But when I went to look them up in Amazon I really learned about inflation as well! Some of these things are $30 for a small can!! Nevertheless it is what it is and...

    Best Door Hinge Lubricant

Thanks again to all for all the feedback so far. Greatly appreciated. And as some have commented, I have discovered that what is squeaking in my case is actually not the hinges themselves. It's the heavy spring that rides against the little wheels to keep the door propped open. Thanks again

Thanks for that suggestion too. I have to confess I've never heard of Fluid Film before now. But I have heard of lanolin-based products for firearms.

    Holy Grail of Squarebodys

For me, limiting my response to stock production vehicles: Depending upon the needs of the day: 1991 V3500 Crew Cab, SRW, 454, 4L80E (Saw one listed recently on eBay for $115k) or 1991 V2500 Suburban, 350, 4L80E, barn doors. Of course love the Blazers/Jimmys too. Pick your favorite year...

    Best Door Hinge Lubricant

Hello to All, Looking for some suggestions for the best door hinge lubricant you use. From what I can remember the factory service manual recommends plain engine oil. I have tried many different lubricants and I haven't found one that really works good. They all seem to work only for a short...

In need of a good paint and body shop in Houston area

The answer to these questions really depends on what you want your ultimate end result to be. It's really impossible in my opinion to get a quality paint job even at a reasonable price. The quality paint job is going to take a lot of labor hours and expensive materials to do properly. It's going...

    Batteries

I've had very good luck with Optimas. I've been running either red tops or yellow tops in all of my vehicles for the past 20 plus years. It's about eight cars and trucks. Including two 454s. I have better luck with the yellow tops with vehicles that aren't used regularly. Deep cycle. And I keep...

Draining antifreeze before changing intake manifold

If I were doing this work I would pull the coolant drain plug from the block and drain all the coolant out of the block before removing the intake manifold.

    Are pneumatic tools obselete?

I like a small electric driver for small things around the engine compartment or in the interior etc. They are reasonably light and compact and handy and no cord to slow you down. But for heavy chassis work, etc I still prefer the pneumatic.

Coolant and Spark Plug gap questions.

I also concur with the 0.45-in gap for HEI. And I also concur with the green coolant. As suggested by others, be sure to completely drain and flush one or more times with fresh water before switching from orange to green. I believe they are incompatible with each other. I recommend a 50-50...
