    TBI emissions control adventures

O2 sensor only cost about 10 bucks, so not very expensive. But it only has a few hundred miles on it. The injector spray looked ok, but I'm not exactly sure what is it supposed to look like. I did notice a few slow drips from one injector after the truck is shut off. It would drip a little...

    TBI emissions control adventures

Thanks. The Denso sensor has maybe a couple hundred miles on it so it is really new. It would be a bummer if the intake manifold is leaking.

    TBI emissions control adventures

Been reinstalling/replacing various emissions control parts on an 89 7.4L TBI where a previous owner had removed the AIR pump/pipe/valve system, cat, 02 sensor and various TBI vacuum lines were incorrectly hooked up. These parts are all back in. The AIR pump/parts were used but the cat, O2...

    Driving with leaking rear axle?

Thanks. I need to drive it about 35 miles loaded with logs and 35 miles back empty. I'll drive slow, watch the leak and hope for the best. Oil soaked brake shoes probably aren't good. Is the seal hard to do on this? I haven't done it before. Drums are almost new, does the oil wreck them?

    Driving with leaking rear axle?

Noticed today my rear axle on the passenger side is leaking gear oil from the inside of the wheel. The leak doesn't seem too bad, relatively slow. Is it a bad idea to drive on this at all or could I get by for a while so long as I keep the oil level up? Is there a seal to replace on this...

    What front axle is this?

Hello - I'm relatively new to GM trucks and could use some help figuring out what front axle this is. It's on a 1989 V3500 that came as a cab and chassis. Is this a GM axle or a Dana axle? Any help is much appreciated. It has 10 bolts on the cover.

1989 V3500 Oxygen Sensor Wire Location?

Went on my first test drive after a bunch of different repairs done this winter. Re-installed smog pump, properly routed vacuum lines, various wiring repairs, reinstalled new O2 sensor and new Cat. Once the truck is warmed up, it runs fantastic now, much more power and I can accelerate up...

Rigid plastic vacuum lines, can I replace with rubber vacuum hose?

Thanks again. Got everything hooked up correctly and the truck runs much better.

Thanks for the tip. Found the small cover with three bolts so now I know which model.

Rigid plastic vacuum lines, can I replace with rubber vacuum hose?

Thanks for the tips. The NAPA near me wanted to sell me copper tubing which seemed strange.

Rigid plastic vacuum lines, can I replace with rubber vacuum hose?

I need to replace a few vacuum lines on a TBI 454 square, including one that goes from the air injection diverter valve to the TBI, and a few others. But they are made of rigid plastic and are smaller diameter than typical rubber vacuum lines. Do I have to use rigid plastic vacuum line or can...

T-case front output bearing/seal replacement, do-able with case in truck?

My next project appears to be replacing the front output seal and maybe the bearing on my transfer case. Its been in my garage parked but left it in 4wd. Seems to be leaking a lot more when it is in 4wd than in 2wd and seems to be coming from front driveshaft area. Is this project do-able...

1989 V3500 Oxygen Sensor Wire Location?

Ended up finding a cut purple wire tucked back into loom. Spliced it to a new connector and all good. Hardest part was getting out the threaded plug from the manifold to put the sensor in. Not a lot of room to work in there. Thanks again for these tips. Much appreciated.

Looking for 89 V3500 Air Injection System Parts

Very sorry all. Thank you for the posts but for some reason I thought I would get an email notice when people replied to this so apologize for the late responses to this. Now I know to check the site more often. I ended up finding the parts at a junkyard in Denver from a 454 Suburban. Dealer...

Heater hose re-route around the TBI? Should I or should I not?

Thanks. I'll probably go that route then because the replacement fitting on the TBI seems like it is not available at parts stores.

Heater hose re-route around the TBI? Should I or should I not?

How important is it for coolant from the heater hose to pass through the TBI on an 89 V3500 with 7.4L engine? While doing another project, I noticed that the heater hose connection at the back of the TBI is loose and looks like the connector plastic is partially broken. This is a heater hose...

Looking for 89 V3500 Air Injection System Parts

Recently learned that I need to re-install the air injection pump and tubes in order to pass my State emissions test. Anybody have any of these parts hanging around that they would sell to me? I think I can buy all of it new but would rather get used parts that work. Truck has a 454 and...

1989 V3500 Oxygen Sensor Wire Location?

Thanks. Check engine light has come on a couple times but it doesn’t stay on. It had code 13 stored when I checked it last. I bought this truck to be used for firewood, log and tree branch hauling but I don’t plan to drive it daily. Since my coolant sensor is unplugged might that prevent it from...

1989 V3500 Oxygen Sensor Wire Location?

Thank you. I will hunt down purple wires coming out of the firewall as the next step. Any thoughts on how important it is to have the O2 sensor if I install a new cat? Could I run it without the O2 sensor like it is now or might I fry the cat?

1989 V3500 Oxygen Sensor Wire Location?

Thanks everybody for the helpful tips, much appreciated. In case it matters for my question, this is a manual transmission truck that originally had AC. Truck doesn't have a wire loom that goes over the bell housing/transmission at the firewall, but maybe a previous owner moved wires? Looks...
