    Looking to get a winch

I wanted a front receiver for my 86 Sierra Classic real bad but they were not available anywhere (at least back when I was searching for them - maybe 10 years ago). I finally ended up fabricating one myself. It was a simple design but worked well. I had a Mile Marker 15,000 lb winch (POS BTW)...

    Taillights/Tag lights out

I gave up until I turned on my lights... I must have jostled something when messing with the fusebox. What the heck. These have NEVER worked. I bet that is exactly what happened. I also bet that eventually the problem will return - but who knows, maybe it won't. Wait and see. I always live by...

water pump, Alaska 86 GMC Sierra classic 1500 4x4

The B.C. (on a 4 bolt flange) is simply the distance across the flange face between two diametrically opposed bolt holes. This image explains it better than I can: all 3 When you go to make everything up there will be 3 sets of bolt holes that need to be lined up in order for the bolts to...

    Taillights/Tag lights out

The headlights are on a separate circuit. You are concerned with the BRN 9 circuit. It supplies the parking/marker lights (both front and rear) as well as the tag lights. The BRN 9 circuit originates at the H/L switch and runs straight to the cab side of the firewall connector block. There are...

water pump, Alaska 86 GMC Sierra classic 1500 4x4

Measure the bolt circle (distance across the face from one hole to the other - that passes through the center) on all three of them. Since the fan and pulley haven't been changed, you'll probably find the B.C. on the water pump driven flange doesn't match. BTW - read this from Gates on...

    gauges oil pressure & fuel

Yeah I get what you mean - and it seems like we're both saying the same thing. Unfortunately (and especially since you have already installed a new sender), the symptoms you describe don't normally suggest a problem with the gauge circuitry. It seems like everything is working as designed...

    gauges oil pressure & fuel

I don't know if you were aware of this TSB. I know it only references 1986 models but that was a longtime ago and things get fuzzy - not to mention changed out. You might want to look into it. The first thing that crossed my mind when I read your OP was a mechanical interference issue. I'm a...

    gauges oil pressure & fuel

The oil pressure gauge issue will most likely be due to an intermittent bad connection - it could be at the sender end, bulkhead connector or at the instrument cluster. While you're checking the connection at the sender, that's good time to be sure there is 12 volts available on the TAN wire...

    1989 R3500 Dual Battery Question

From what I had read, this was to power a trailer (there is a power connector at the wheel well in the bed). What other items were typically powered using the secondary battery? In addition to trailer wiring, the system was also designed to supply power to camper equipment. I have a few things...

    90 Suburban ECM Fuse Popping

On the 5.7 motor, a dual function oil pressure switch/sender is used. It has three leads connected to it. A single TAN lead is connected to ground via a variable resistance - and that just drives the dash gauge. The ORN 440 supplies power to both the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump pressure...

How does the oil gauge function? Mine is pegged to the right

A DK BLU lead was used in later models. It connected to an oil pressure switch, not the sender. The pressure switch was is part of the choke heater circuit. The sender is only to drive the oil pressure gauge.

    Weird reverse light problem

Inspect the rear lighting harness. Make sure that it isn't pinched between the frame and body somewhere. Also, if any section of the harness is routed close to the exhaust system, check for signs of heat damage.

Dash Lights and Power Window Problems

On the dash illumination issue, there should be a gap between the cluster retainer (the black plastic piece that covers the gauges) and the gauges themselves. That gap is how the light from the lamps illuminates the gauges. I just looked at an assembled cluster and the gap looks to be about...

    Gauges and headlights electrical issue

Don't touch the painted on details with anything. They will smear very easily. Seems like the white paint smears the easiest. Remove the gauges and rinse them under a strong stream of warm water in the kitchen sink. That will remove most of the dust. If you still have some dusty areas, use a...

How does the oil gauge function? Mine is pegged to the right

As noted above look for a tan wire. It also can be identified by the special boot over the connector. The lead is offset from the center of the boot: If you can't find the tan lead and need to run a new one from the firewall, it will originate at the D6 socket as shown in the image below:

    Weird reverse light problem

Yes, that's correct. I didn't know if you had checked whether that was the case. For that to occur, the conditions have to be right. With the H/L switch in off (i.e. not in the H/L's or parking lights position). Move the gear shifter to R. If the BRN 9 and LT GRN 24 circuits are cross...

    Gauges and headlights electrical issue

The headlights are on a branch of share a power supply that also feeds nearly every other circuit in the truck. Mostly through the ignition switch. If turning on the H/L's causes reduced performance in other circuits, that would suggest a voltage drop in the entire electrical system. Does the...

    Weird reverse light problem

The lead to the parking/marker lights (BRN) is shorted to the lead for B/U lights (LT GRN). Inspect the rear lighting harness. Make sure that it isn't pinched between the frame and body somewhere. Also, if any section of the harness is routed close to the exhaust system, check for signs of...

    85 C10 Fan help

The gauge and sender have to be compatible. The OEM 1513321 "nail head" style senders are getting wicked hard to find. The after market replacements don't have the same resistance curves as the original senders. Read these threads - a couple of very knowledgeable guys cleared things up ...

    90 Suburban ECM Fuse Popping

You might want to inspect the rear lighting wiring loom too. It runs from the main bulkhead connector at the fire wall and heads back. In addition to the leads for the rear lights, that loom carries the wiring to the fuel pump/gas gauge sender. I am not at all familiar with 06 body style...
