Coil Spring and Truck Bars for a Square Body

I drag raced a 67 shorty for about 12 years and I made crossmember brackets so the front of the bars could be adjusted up or down. I used the Alston manual of that time period and did adjustments as a ladder bar. Ended up going about 2” down on front and with a 454 th400 and slicks it would...

Catalytic converters: does your square have them?

My 81 with 350 came with a single pelt type cat back to a muffler and then dual outlets that came out the right side behind the fender. When the warranty was up the whole exhaust from manifolds right to the back was removed and headers with duals installed. All nicely stored in the attic of my...

Talk me out of cutting my dash

Put a stock am/fm in the dash open the glove box and mount whatever you want (CD Bluetooth etc.) in there. Years ago I had a job that included installation of alpine equipment and cut up many trucks to install the din mount, regret every one now.

    H - Pipes

With a mild cam, no cross over and -20 degrees it would puff out perfect smoke rings at idle and once I installed a cross pipe the rings ended. It did look a bit odd the rings popping out from a truck.

Does my engine have a chance of living?

From what I can see in the Clean photo the lifters all look almost even hight on the right side of the pic. I would turn it over by hand and make sure you have lift and the cam is not worn out. Just an observation it might look different in real life

    1931 Chevrolet 2 door sedan (I think)

I briefly owned a 29 Pontiac that is built in the same way. You need or have the want to learn good carpentry and whittling skills. It is amazing how much wood is in the old Chevs, more or less a wood carriage with the outer skin of tin nailed on. That is why you don’t see many old Chevs hot...

    Original engine

I know my 81 has the original engine because I am the original and only owner and the only person to ever work on it. Currently under an extensive restoration but the engine is not coming out unless down the road it has to for repair.

    !979 C-10 Trans Cross Member

Just picked one up from them. Real nice guy to deal with. I’m using Malibu headers so need the crossmember up out of the way and this one should do that.

    Headers and trans crossmember question

After weighing my options plus the fact I was in the Phoenix area I decided to go with the DirtyDingo crossmember. Drove out to Mesa and picked it up. Really nice guys to deal with and I’m not doing an ls swap but if I was I would take a serious look at their stuff.

Can Someone Please Tell Me What This Is?

Off topic but you might want to reroute your fuel line. Strapped to the heater hose you will be super heating your fuel and could actually run a bit lean. It is kind of opposite of drag racers running their fuel through a cool can filled with ice.

    Headers and trans crossmember question

On my 81 shorty 2wd I install a set of Hooker Comp long tube headers from a 72 Monte Carlo/Chevelle. They fit nice and clear the mounts and frame nice BUT the pass side outlet lines up right in the middle of the trans crossmember. The drivers side is fine because the crossmember drops down to...

    Backfire through carburetor

With valve covers removed and coil unplugged have somebody crank it over while you watch the rockers. I’m sure you will find one or two that don’t move as much as the others. This means you have been bit by the notorious GM small block worn cam lobe problem. If it has been doing it for a while...

    How to clean gas tanks

I just removed both my tanks. One was totally rusted inside the other look spotless and shiny but when I pulled the front plastic shield off there was external rust and while scraping it with a screw driver it poked a hole. Don’t just look inside, pull the rock shield and check outside rust as well.

    another drop discussion

Depending on budget you might want to look into this TCI unit. Rear ride height can be adjusted.

Just pull the 81 out of storage tent where it has sat for years.

Going to replace rocker panels, front springs and just bought the new TCI rear four link coil over kit. When I opened the hood I remembered the air cleaner is different from most.

    Truck starts no key

It was common on the old GM's to have the Ignition key tumbler and or the key to wear to the point that you could pull out the key while the truck was running. Guessing due to a big clump of keys on the ring. Yours might have worn to the point it will turn on without the key. Probably not the...

Anyone running old school roots type supercharger?

I thought it was the electric chokes are not powered up so it will run a tad rich. Like to give it a try in my 81

New trucks are no longer trucks

Good luck closing once it gets some snow and ice in it. Maybe they should just air bag the truck and lower it. Where is the hand rail like the F_RDS have!!
