Elementary Question About Rocker Panels
If you bought the full rocker you will need the fender off to install it. But check and measure check and measure again before the old comes off (if it’s not too late) so you will know your placement to get your lower door gap right.- WesN

What have you done to your square lately??
My 81 GMC currently has 207000km or approximately 160000 mile and I would rough estimate 300 passes down the drag strip. It went down the track 50 times this last summer alone. In 1988 it was a track champion in the street class. And the transmission has never been out of the truck, oh it did... -
New seat bottom foam vs re-building existing?
When I went to put a new cover on I found the frame to be broken in one spot and cracked in another that allowed the seat to sag on the drivers side when you sat on it. Welded it up and is good now. Pic shows the break repaired and the crack which received a weld. -
Anyone install truetrak limited slip?
Installed the TrueTrac and now can do a two wheel burnout. Hooks good at the track. City driving with tight corner or parking in a parking lot you would think the open carrier was still in it no binding or popping.- WesN

Which shocks do I need?
With spindles the shock height or length remains the same it is shorter springs that shorten the required shock length. I run 2” spindles and 2” Bell tech springs and after checking mount distance ended up using the stock shocks and it works fine. With a 3” spring you might need shorter shocks...- WesN

What have you done to your square lately??
Made these by sewing vinyl into tubes and sliding over belts. They don’t hold them up like the plastic but look a ton better than my busted up missing parts stock ones. -

Oil change. Counted the service record book and it was the 44th time I changed the oil on the old girl. -
What new tools have you got lately?
Made an extra deep socket to remove the drive sprocket on a Harley Super Glide. 1 7/8 socket chopped in two and pipe welded in to extend it. -

Good eye. Castrol Raceway now has the race timing slip on an app and it includes weather stats and calculated altitude. Kind of neat but I am old school and like the paper slips.- WesN

I think I found a problem with fuel delivery. It is a piece of rubber gasket that I think is from the fuel pump deteriorating. I got a pick in to get it out and the nut is 1/4” for comparison. New pump and installed an Edelbrock in-line filter and in a couple of weeks will take it to the track...- WesN

3546 alt. 64degree F no spin but I feel it was running out of gas in the top end and have a new fuel pump coming to replace the original.- WesN

Had the old girl to the track and ran 15.90 at 85 mph. Now you might not think that is too great but considering it’s a 1981 and the short block and trans have never been out of the truck. I put my low beams on the bottom on my 81 due to back in the day I raced snowmobiles for a number of year and coming home in the dark I always seemed to get caught in a snow storm. How to measure your driveshaft correctly?
So you don’t have a drive shaft and need one made. How much movement do you give the slip yoke at the transmission before you measure from trans yoke to diff yoke? -
Why trans/driveline 'clunks' when I put in reverse? '87 TBI 350 w/700r4
While listening under your truck watch and listen at the leaf springs and see if the slap together when put into reverse. Some called it spring wrap some spring slap.- WesN
