    Oil pressure

You need a pick up tube and any scratches in the pump indicate it is likely trash. Internal clearances dictate whether it is not. When checking bearings for damage, you should also check the farthest from the pump. Although the closest are the first to get air, the farthest are the last to get...

Stock 350 getting hot, but only on the highway with AC on

You should also check your belt condition and tension. A bit of a long shot, but an oily or glazed belt will not always screech when it is slipping. The extra load at higher rpm may just be enough to make the difference.

    383 Stroker

Don't know about that. lol. My wife says she is going to burry me with the boat that engine was built for when my time is up.

    383 Stroker

I would never question the power difference between a sbc and bbc. In the late 80's I purchased a '73 k2500 with an lt1 the po had installed in front of it's 4 speed. It was a beast. I was young and fuel was cheep. After a cam failure caused piston and valve damage, I sold the lt1 as a core and...

    383 Stroker

@Ricko1966 All good! The block I have and the heads are hr'd out and owe me nothing. The problem I have with my location is everything has to be shipped out. In my mind, the cost to have a magnaflux and grind done on the crank, along with new pistons, could go a long way toward a complete rotary...

    383 Stroker

Hmm... To each their own I guess? For a capable person building their own sbc, why wouldn't you bump it up for a few more $$? I went with a .020 over 5.7 on my last build. This second engine is just sitting in the shadows waiting for some attention. I am referring to a relatively mild truck...

    383 Stroker

What would you recommend for a good block to start with? I have an original 4 bolt, 10243880 rollercam block along with set of vortec heads I will be building next winter. Have been looking into stroking it with a scat rotating assembly.

The stroke (clearance required) is determined by the crankshaft throw. The length of the rod only reflects which piston to choose. The longer rods use pistons with a higher wrist pin location.

    Mpg to expect on an '82 C20 3+3, 350?

Damn. These numbers sound horrible. Sure glad our gallons are bigger!

Never thought of that, but you may be correct. Believe it depends on which con rod was used in the build though.

    383 Stroker

Interesting.... I am not aware of a simple way if it does not have a fixed tag or build sheet supplied with it. They are a 5.7 bored .030 over with a slightly longer stroke. Originally a 400 crank was used with larger main journals, but aftermarket rotary groups are the more common way they are...

    Dedicated nitrogen charge kit recommendations

Nice! My N tank was not included in that price. I use it quite a bit. Handy for pressurizing a/c systems when looking for leaks too. Interested in hearing how the shocks work out for you.

    Dedicated nitrogen charge kit recommendations

I charge accumulators regularly on the job as they are not allowed to be shipped charged. I use a pretty simple set up. Some of the accumulators are as high as 950 psi. I don't bother with a dedicated regulator due to the higher pressures. Just run a hose direct from bottle to a small manifold...

    1976 C30 Trailer Brake Controller

The trailer is electric over hydraulic with 2 5k disc torsion axels. If fully loaded with fuel, water and gear it is likely closer to 8 on the scales. The truck has 4.56 gears so hopefully no pulling issue. I did read up on the (P3) prodigy controller last night before calling it a day. Looks...

    1976 C30 Trailer Brake Controller

Does your trailer have EH brakes? Another concern I have with the current ones during normal operation, is what happens with the trailer (with EH) brakes while stopped at a traffic light? Does the controllers let the trailer brakes let off or do they sit at full pressure even though the tow...

    1976 C30 Trailer Brake Controller

I remember having aftermarket brake controllers in older squares that tapped into the brake line and worked proportionally directly with the brake line pressure. Is that not a thing anymore? It is still built into newer vehicles that way. I ask, because it is something I would like to add for a...

    Truck @ The Garage Anxiety

You are building a relationship with a shop that has close to 30 years history with your truck. Stick to your agreement or chance leaving a bad taste in their mouth backing out. It is only a service. You will want their attention when you really need them.

Has anyone have experience using a bed lift?

If tie down anchors are of any use as they are to me, they can be easily installed in the corners of the box bed. They bolt through the bed crossmembers and make excellent, solid lifting points as well. My '86 CUCV has them as well as my '08 2500. We have a nice adjustable bed net that does a...

    Truck sitting weird after lift.

Agree it doesn't look bad. It may be you need to add a leaf in the front to make up for the diesel and winch? If you're looking for level, it would look worse squatting with any load added in the back, imo.

A/C hack for non A/C Vehicles

Pics of your car? If you have converted to an electric cooling fan package, you will want to make sure they too cycle with the compressor so air is flowing across the condenser.

    Serpentine Belt brackets

Thanks @bucket! I guess I fall into that "folks" category. I actually have the delete pulley kit on it's way. Lol. I am using all the brackets from a '97 TBI suburban in my CUCV. Hoping to have the powertrain mounted in the frame over the next couple weekends. Any chance you know the delco part...

Do you have a pic of this set up with the belt and all accessories on?

Chose between the vortec vs sbc

Agree with finding a new block. I would not spend any money on a used one that is .060 over. I actually have a low hr'd 880 roller cam (.060 over) at the shop that was given to me with a dropped valve. I only accepted it for the Vortec heads.

    Well..this gonna be interesting....shifter boot/bezel

Is there enough clearance to set up the NP205 with actuators and go air shift? That would be kind of unique and cool.

    Blue Print or GM Performance

A roller cam is a benefit but the bigger gain is with the later vortec heads. Vortec use an 8 bolt intake manifold which will be additional costs for your application. You likely have the 12 bolt intake with exhaust crossover as does the BPE you posted.
