    Craziest antitheft idea yet.

I wonder if the new generation thieves are even that interested (as simple as it is) in putting in the effort of smash and grabs (hot wiring) on these old trucks? It is my understanding that they are after the newer luxury vehicles they can grab with a couple clicks of a fob. Regardless, I did...

    Sbc dumping oil

Was a bypass adapter OE back then? Have only known them to be built into the filter. Pic would be great.

    Order of upgrades

The 880 is a roller cam block. Wiping cams was more of a flat tappet thing. Agree with get her all done at once.

    What to keep? Sbc questions

The casting number on the back of the block will tell you if it is a roller cam or not. Not sure when they started (mid 90's), but the 10243880 was a popular choice for builds. All were rough casted with the provision for a mechanical pump but not all were finished. Just a plug up in the pushrod...

What was previous owner trying to do?

You're missing the inner fenders. Looks like the outers were chopped up for clearance with bigger tires. You are going to have to do some fabricating

    Fuel mixture screws

Idle mixture is just that and will be out of the picture once the throttle plates have opened. They will not have much effect to the overall mileage and the loaded performance you are experiencing. In addition to what has been mentioned, a cylinder not firing can give similar symptoms as well...

Help!!! Flywheel bolts keep coming loose

Did they bar the engine over and check the runout of the flywheel after torqueing it? Sounds like they are overlooking something.

How much oil pressure is to much for a stock 350

Why did you replace the original pump? There is no gain to having higher than recommended oil pressures. Only draw backs. The 10 psi/1000 rpm is a minimal rule of thumb. Check your pressure with a mechanical gauge (at operating temp) to see if there even is a problem. Oil viscosity will also...

    454 Crankshaft rod journal

Do you mean .001-.005"? .05" is a deep void and could easily effect the structural integrity of the crankshaft and probably make it scrap IMO. It would have to have been stored for a long period for that to happen. It a shame it wasn't oiled better before doing so. Pics can be misleading. My...

    454 Crankshaft rod journal

If it is as you describe it, it sucks but I would not let it bother me. It is located near the center of the bearing shell and wont effect anything. If there is any minute voids, they will simply hold oil. I would be more concerned with under sizing those journals.

    Fuel Hose OK ?

Thanks guys. I will update my project with some pics over the weekend so you can see what I'm working with. I am doing a temp install with a marine built engine using an electric fuel pump for temp mock up and break in/testing. Have another 880 roller cam block with mechanical pump for a...

    Fuel Hose OK ?

Doing the same as op with a tbi block with carb. There is not much clearance behind the aluminum serpentine bracket and the plastic timing chain cover. Going to look into this. The thought of a steel line rubbing/vibrating against the plastic in a blind spot concerns me. Was considering running...

    6.2 to 350 swap

So, had time to look a bit further today on my CUCV for you. I just want to remind you again, our harnesses and fuse blocks are not the same but I would suspect the 6.2 related stuff is. Do your own due diligence. The fuel shut off on mine is a 10 ga pink wire. It is controlled straight from...

    6.2 to 350 swap

Sorry for chiming in late. My rig is a CUCV, so lots of differences in the harnesses (including 2nd alternator for 24v), but believe the 6.2 stuff is the same. I'm not quite to the same stage as you yet but will be in the next couple days. The power to the green glow plug wires are switched on...

Loud Knock After Replacing Intake Manifold

The amount of oil flow at the rockers is a concern for me. Have you checked the pressure? Frequency of knock reflects ignition or possible piston/head contact. (FYI- A bad rod bearing normally only allows piston/head contact between the exhaust and intake strokes. Hopefully not the case)...

Loud Knock After Replacing Intake Manifold

Sounds like 1/2 crankshaft speed. Would add to Ricko's checks to dump the lube filter and look for contamination.

    Vinyl Floor Recommendations?

Thanks. Am pretty happy with how it all turned out. That would definitely make an easy clean up. Will see how loud it is in the cab once it is rolling. Getting close to making fire with the new engine.

    Vinyl Floor Recommendations?

Thanks guys. I ended up ordering the heavy molded floor mat from LMC. Probably should have just gone with the regular. Will try lots of heat when I get to it but it's initial fit appears to be pretty unmanageable. May end up tossing it and looking for something else. I did have bed liner...

1986 K30 Silverado Torque converter question

In the middle of doing the same. It is my understanding that you will want a different vacc modulator and have to play with the governor a bit as well.

Loud Knock After Replacing Intake Manifold

Sounds like you may have some wires crossed. You shouldn't have disturbed much more than the distributor. Follow each wire to the plug in direction of rotation. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

Did you roll new bearings in? Curious what the date stamps were. Maybe someone has been into it?

    Timing light recommendations

Borrowing is good for a once/twice use thing. I would not waste the money on a fixed strobe though. For a few more bucks get the advance option. I don't use timing lights much but do have the Innova as well. Good bang for the buck.

    350 dipstick tube

20 years is a long time to be loose. It is likely warn down enough that replacing it is the best option. If you're lucky, the block won't be the same. I have had good success sealing and locking loose tubes (diesels) in place by adding knurling to the portion of the tube that seats in the block...
