small block buick - carburetors, radiators, suggestions?

The 'hot air' comes from the exhaust crossover port inside the intake manifold. The heat from the exhaust warms the choke mechanism / tube, just like the electric heater does on the electric version. Oldsmobile used it clear to the end of production on their V8 Quadrajets in the 1990 model year.

    Turbo 400 filter(s)

That's good to know. I've only ever used a single O-ring from the kits, but only had one that seemed to be a problem, oddly the only cheap filter I purchased.

    Turbo 400 filter(s)

Had an AutoZone filter do that on my T400 too. Had used NAPA fabric filters in the past with no problem. Most recent have been AC Delco. I understand as well they very sensitive to flow.

    Wiper Pulse Module #15598496

I thank you so much for posting this! It hasn't been a priority for me to fix mine, I at least have the 'mist' position for a single pass (since I added intermittent wipers), and I live in the desert. I hadn't opened one of the modules yet (I am an electronics nerd by trade, for anyone that...

At least you have them, just in case.

I am a V6 soccer mom now! Lol

Unless you are having an issue, or bought genuine OEM, I would not change out the coils. Parts quality is deplorable, IMHO.

    Removing Smog on a 81 305

The wife was riding shotgun in the Camper Specials. She helped pick the truck too.

Adding convertor (s). Yes, I said adding.

While none of them like a rich mixture, the 3 way catalyst (containing platinum, palladium, and rhodium) for control of HC / CO / NOx is dependent on a feedback fuel system (O2 sensor) for most efficient operation. The older design (2 way) for only HC and CO, not so much. Did you know it is...

    Cassette Tuner Recommendations

IIRC, in the MON position, you can have music and it will be interrupted by transmissions, dependent on squelch setting.

Looking for the elusive disposable Th200 Non Lock-Up

What I think that I am hearing is that my original, early 700R4 (built '83) behind my LG4 in my '84 Caprice with 275K miles is worth A LOT to the right person :laughing1:

Looking for the elusive disposable Th200 Non Lock-Up

The THM 200C was the base automatic transmission with the new 4.3L V6 for '85. I'm not sure that the 200R4 was ever offered with the 4.3 in the G-body.

Looking for the elusive disposable Th200 Non Lock-Up

Would it be provocative to say the THM 200 made its debut in the 1976 Chevette and Vega, for which it was designed? Then someone at GM said for the 1977 model year, "hey, lets put as many of these as we can in nearly every car line. It will generally last as long as the warranty". Still looking...

    power window motor question

IIRC, you can insert an object in the hole and press the 2 dissimilar layers of metal together (thermal overload protection, cheap, crap design) when they have opened abnormally. This is supposed to allow you to operate the motor (if obstructed in some applications) to access it for repair.

    Straight 6 to V8 swap?

Since it is probably an integral head 250, keep an eye out for a non-integral head and intake manifold, if you want to keep it. I've long suspected the integral head offers better performance compared to a stock, non integral, but the cracking issue is overwhelming. You'd need the matching...

    Power Steering Gear Leak

I drilled a tiny hole in the metal of the lip seal, and threaded a screw into it. I was able to pull it our easily. Lots of fluid leaking out, so cleanup of any shavings was easy.

    Power Steering Gear Leak

Do it now. Mine started leaking badly with no warning or previous leakage at all. Put a new seal in years ago, box is still great. It is just a lip seal on mine.

    79 250 2nd temp sensor

Metal temperature switches are primarily (maybe only) an inline engine thing with GM. All they do is close when the designed temp is reached or exceeded. This will either turn on the idiot light or peg the gauge at HOT. Our '86 Cavalier 4 cylinder used one of the 1/8 thread metal temp switches...

Link Belt vs. (Double) Roller Timing Chains

You can turn the crank back and forth and listen to the slop / clank of the chain, since there is no tensioner. May give you a SWAG of how sloppy it really is. I have anecdotally noticed chains seem to be the noisiest on cool (but above freezing), damp mornings before the engine comes up to...

Link Belt vs. (Double) Roller Timing Chains

I did a Japanese made double roller from NAPA at 200k in my LG4. The 2 piece standard (also from NAPA) was so sloppy after 100k (it replaced the nylon wonder and sloppy original chain at 100k) I didn't want a planned job at 300k.

That's too bad. Wouldn't surprise me if the digital dash car has the voice module that talks through the left front speaker too.

New to me 1988 Cutlass Ciera xc

The 3.8 Buick (not to be confused with the 3800 when redesigned, 1989) used a nylon coated, pot metal, camshaft timing gear, which was a disaster in a 90 degree V6. Pull the camshaft position sensor and see if it has failed. Cool car though. I have two Buick Century's.

    Does a AM/FM Delco Radio with cassette fit in a 73 C20?

I have an AM/FM Cassette from an '84 Caprice in my '78 C20, if that is any help. Perfect fit, but the back brace was missing.

My family's business started dealing with Deutz products in the early 70s and found them to be excellent. The noise of an air cooled diesel is noticeable compared to a water cooled.

    1981 El Camino parts runner

While the various SS models are associated with high performance, many were not necessarily such. Many first gen Novas were 6 cylinders. The Impala SS could be bought with any engine, including the base 6 cylinder from '62 to '67 (maybe even '68). There were about 400 Impala SS 6 cylinders built...
