    Sell the dually and buy a single rear wheel 3/4 or 1 ton. Trying to modify the dually will just ruin it and you will have a worse situation when you get done, then it wont be worth selling to get a decent truck.

    Break in oil, and run it hard. The rings need to grind in on the cylinder walls until they seat. Synthetic wont allow that as well as break in oil, that is made for it. Lucas has a good one.

    Don't forget to lean it out one jet size for every 2000 feet in elevation you are at above sea level. Power valve should be half of idle vacuum. That plug looks like it is pretty rich.

    That looks like a non A/C truck? Probably any parts store will have one. I got one from AutoZone for mine recently, although it is an A/C truck.

    I think that all Edelbrock carburetors have this problem. they don't hold the gas in the bowl, overnight. It must evaporate or something. I am not sure if this happens with other types of carburetors. I usually have to crank it for a few seconds, then pump it about 10 times, then repeat a couple...

    Potential wiring problem

    I dont think that '83 trucks "think". They don't have computers that would provide overheat protection, prevent it from starting, no matter what the gauge says, or if it even is hooked up. Maybe you are having other wiring issues that are preventing it from starting.

    On a TH400 there is an electrical switch that goes through the case near the valve body. I don't remember exactly, but it hooks onto something under the pan, and that controls the kick down. Maybe unhooked or needs a replacement switch. Its been a few years since I had a TH400, but I drove it...

    Either will do about the same, but good luck finding a 327. Go with the good old 350, SBC. No substitute for cubic inches.

    I think he is asking a serious question. There is so many different oils. In all of my flat tappet, gas engines, I run Valvoline VR1 20w-50. Good for everything about a square. Plenty of zinc for the cam, heavy enough for the high rpms and heavy loads. Here we go...

    Go for it! It will drop right in. Use small block motor mounts to match the holes on the truck frame. You will need some big block brackets.

    Edelbrock 750 cfm or 600 cfm carburetor for 454 stock engine.

    The 600 will work better for what you are wanting. Make sure it is clean inside, floats set correctly, jetting set for altitude that you are at. Edelbrock manual has all the info. Make sure that you have a return line to the tank to prevent vapor lock. Maybe put a plastic 1/2" spacer to help...

    The big block will bolt right into the small blocks place. Buy the small block motor mounts for the truck, not the ones for the big block motor. Show us what you are working on.

    It could be those electric fans restricting air flow through the radiator. Did you get a good old fashioned manual temperature gauge on there to make sure that the factory gauge is correct?

    Leaning it out will make it run hotter. Maybe your radiator is not flowing well, or you dont have a fan shroud. What thermostat are you running?
