    700R4 Information Thread

Gotcha...Yep, replace the converter asap as the TCC sounds like it's slipping as leaving it unplugged just results in runaway overheating and stresses the front gear train and clutch packs in the forward and rev input drums.

What's wrong with your TCC lock up? Is it simply not locking up or locking and staying locked up when it shouldn't? Or something else?
  4. NickTransmissions

    700R4 Information Thread

Yes, it shouldn't be shifting while TCC is locked up...TCC applies while in third, unlocks once you accelerate sufficiently -->shift to 4th--> TCC applies while in 4th. Downshift TCC apply strategy is the same. Are you having issues w/your TCC lock up or just wanting to know more about how it...

Shift shaft seal leaking on 700r4?

Not worth it IMO. You're paying for the entire harness, pcm etc all of which either must come from the same vehicle or be programmed so the ECM and TEHCM are speaking to each other correctly. You're also playing for integration into your vehicle (x member, drive shaft, u joints, programming and...

    700R4 Information Thread

Converter unlocks anytime you hit the brakes, accelerate enough and/or the 4th and 3rd gear pressure switch no longer sees a hydraulic pressure signal from the governor (same principle for those models designed to have lock up in second), opens thereby cutting power to the tcc solenoid which...

Shift shaft seal leaking on 700r4?

Yes, afaik the selector shaft is the same diameter and process is the same when using the removal tool for all applicable transmissions. If dropping the pan, the th400, 4L80E and 6L transmissions use retention pins in addition to everything else (the TH400's resembles a finish nail but it's...

Shift shaft seal leaking on 700r4?

There's two methods: Use the special tool to remove the seal and a 15mm socket to install a new one or Drop the pan, remove the selector shaft (remove the 15mm retention nut with a wrench, remove the flex spacer with a flat blade screw driver, tap on the rooster comb to get it to unseat from...

700R4 to 4L80E in my 87 Chevy Blazer

Call Summit, if you haven't already - their tech support should be able to guide you to the right ECM for what you're trying to do...There's also plenty of harness kits available as well...Also, check eBay if you haven't already - they sell VATS-free ECMs 0411 and L29....Vet the sellers...

    Torque Converter Recommendation

You're welcome! Short answer to your question: Nope....There is only one fix for that problem... Installing a .500 boost valve in a 700R4 might prolong life of the 3-4 pack but will only delay the inevitable by a few thousand miles or so...13 vane pumps were introduced to provide greater line...

    Torque Converter Recommendation

The powertrain has to work as one holistic system, where cam grind, converter stall, final drive ratio, transmission ratios, tire size and vehicle weight (along with intended application/use) must all be taken into account and phased in/matched so that the system functions optimally...

    best rear gears for 700r4

3.23 to 3.73.m with stock diameter tires. What's your current ratio? Had a customer with 2.73s in a vette where we did a 700r4 swap from a th350 and he would slip/fall out of OD when trying to accelerate while in 4th. Upgraded to 3.42 and problems went away. How many miles on the trans? What...

    Torque Converter Recommendation

Yep, this - wanted him to confirm but if his final drive is really 3.07, hes going to be yanking out that trans to replace the 3-4 pack nearly as often as he does engine oil changes...I ran 4.56 in my K5, up from 3.73 and made a noticable difference with my 35s...

Standard TMBX replacement from GM will work. Your final drive ratio is 3.07?

    Turbo 350 (TH350) Information Thread

Hi Everyone, Figured I'd start an all-encompassing TH350 Transmission thread, similar to my 700R4 thread, to serve as another repository for information about these transmissions. Covers servicing, rebuilding, parts selection and performance/heavy duty upgrades for your TH350. This should be...

Lol, Do you need one built?

Trying to determine what converter I’ll need

They're great transmissions. Up to 700 hp street/strip the only major hard part upgrade I typically do is a billet, rollerized fwd clutch hub (and sometimes a 97+ 4L80E direct drum for its 34-element intermediate sprag). Have you considered a Gear Vendors unit for OD?

Trying to determine what converter I’ll need

All those parts they're installing great but you can likely have a local builder build you the same or better transmission using your unit for a good deal less. Plus he'd be local to you so if it needs to go back to him under warranty, you dont have to worry about shipping. Re that 700r4 in the...

700R4 no forward gears that fixed itself ???

You're welcome...these transmissions are fairly easy to rebuild as long as you follow proper procedure..I'm going to update the OP in that thread w/all the special tools you'll need later today or tomorrow so you'll know what sort of tools you will need to rebuild it yourself, should you decide...

700R4 no forward gears that fixed itself ???

Yes, agreed - that would have absolutely sucked if you broke down while on your trip - glad it didn't shiit the bed then, haha. The amount of time you have left before it becomes inoperable impossible to predict. I'd drop the pan to see what, if anything at the bottom and if you see any pieces...

700R4 no forward gears that fixed itself ???

Sounds like the beginnings of gear train failure or possibly input sprag failure. Id drop the pan to confirm or deny the presense of gear teeth if it happens again or if you temporarily "neutralize" at surface street or highway speeds.

    700R4 Information Thread

Hi @SirRobyn0, I rebuild GM, Ford and Dodge transmissions and have plenty of time w/the '40 series' units (42RH, 46RH/RE, 47RE, 48RE) so feel free to PM me later...I most likely won't be able to respond until tomorrow morning but will take a look and get back with you then.
