    Timing woes

Update: I bought a “piston stop tool” from Summit. It does not work as advertised. I can turn the crank full rotations without meeting resistance that I cannot overcome without slight effort. I noticed in all of the demo videos for the “piston stop tools” that the engines are on a stand, have...

    Timing woes

Update: after bringing my truck up to temp, 210, I disconnected the vacuum hose from the distributor and plugged it. The TDC line on the balancer is around the 10 o'clock position when the #1 spark plug fires. So someone either installed the balancer without regard to TDC or removed it and...

    Timing woes

Damn that’s embarrassing! I’m no mechanic but I should have known that. Will do what you recommended and report back. The autolites are the old plugs I took out. Don’t worry, I put ACDelco plugs in when I changed them.

    Timing woes

Vacuum line was left connected to the distributer but plugged. I did not plug the port on the carb though. I am 100% sure the timing light was on the plug wire for the #1 cylinder. Was at ~210 degrees where it normally operates. I’ve attached a photo of the timing indicator (covers balancer to...

    Timing woes

My truck, a 1984 K30 with a 454 and 4 speed manual, runs fine. The plugs I just changed we’re all a very light tan color. However, since I can never leave well enough alone, I decided to check and adjust (if necessary) the baseline and total timing. A member, Craig85 I believe is his screen...

The cover certainly looks like the one on my D60 from what I can tell.

What have you done to your square lately??

Poppy 87, I used all ACDelco parts. That’s all I use unless they don’t offer the part I need.

What have you done to your square lately??

Serviced the ignition system: -new ignition control unit -new coil -new rotor -new cap -new wires -new plugs I’m pretty sure the #4 and #8 plug wires were on the wrong terminals. It always ran decent before and runs at least as well since changing the aforementioned items. Planning on tweaking...

Cooling system capacity significantly less than manual states

Thanks for the clarification. I tried to burp the system by squeezing the upper hose while the engine was running and the radiator cap was off. I'll just keep a jug of coolant in my truck and check the level periodically until I feel confident enough not to. Thanks again for the reply!

Cooling system capacity significantly less than manual states

Decided to service my cooling system today. First, I ran an off-the-shelf "cleaner" in the system for about 100 miles before draining the system via the lower radiator hose. Also, I ran about 5 gallons of water through the engine until the fluid exiting the block appeared clear. I removed the...

    Found on eBay Listings

https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/d/washington-1984-chevrolet-c30-wrecker/7116687232.html C30 for sale in Washington, PA. (About 30 miles south of Pittsburgh) 454/4 speed that looks to be in decent shape. I do not own the truck or know the owner. If you are VERY interested, I may be able...

Looking for info ? Cooling system !

I saw that someone suggested the RPO code in question was for a “big block” radiator. As seen below, my K30 came with a 454 but that code isn’t listed. I also have a 4 speed so maybe it is related to the TH400?

Please help me identify this solenoid!

Thank you for your assistance, Craig. You have literally bailed me out of every situation I have posted about on this forum. I took the truck for a 20 mile ride consisting of both freeway and surface streets today. It ran exactly the same as it did before, all gauges continue reading within...

Please help me identify this solenoid!

Today, while loosening the thermostat housing/waterneck to change my thermostat, I broke the plastic piece (pictured below) on the solenoid pictured below. Attempts to identify the part have helped me narrow it down to 2 possibilities: one it is a TCS solenoid used to regulate vacuum, or two it...

    SM465 linkage question

I picked up a ~8” spring with a 9/16 body from ace for $3. Has worked fine thus far. I’d be willing to bet that the one that I lost was not OEM

    SM465 linkage question

Today I replaced all 4 shocks on my pickup. While changing the drivers side front shock, I disconnected what I believe is the clutch fork spring to allow for a greater range of motion when tightening/loosening the upper shock mount bolt. I reconnected the spring when I was finished. After...

    35s on stock Chevy wheels

I believe I read on here that some 16.5s were 9.75”. That would definitely be wide enough to mount a 12.5 tire. Also, I just learned about that USA-1 plate (in Craig’s post) and feel compelled to pick one up. An original stamped steel one though.

    35s on stock Chevy wheels

I imagine that the year & model would play a role in whether or not it is possible. I just had 285/75s put on the stock 16x6.5 wheels that came on my 84K30. These measure out to about 33x11.2” The shop that mounted them said that that is the max size for that wheel. My truck is stock height and...

    Bilstein 4600s on a K30

Thanks for your suggestions. Once I discovered that I would be “mixing” gas charged with traditional if I were to go with Rancho, I removed them as an option (I am a bit OCD like that). I'm now leaning heavily towards the Ac Delco professional series shocks. They are gas charged and should...
